Hi. My name is Dianne and I have been an LPN for 2 years. I started to take my pre-req's for Excelsior's ASN RN program Jan '11. I have completed the Sociology exam and I am about to take the Life Span and Development exam. These have not been terribly difficult classes but have taken me forever to complete due to motivation issues. I want to continue this track because I have to work (as a home care nurse) while I go to school. The thought of going to a community college to go through an RN program gives me the willies just thinking about it. LPN school was intense, I can only imagine what the RN program would be like.
So, I am wondering if anyone out there is currently taking classes through Excelsior and would be interested in a study buddy (virtual) or local ( I live in Mass). My next class is Transition from LPN to RN.
Looking forward to hearing from you. :)
I don't use the study group, I just come here and use study guide 101 notes as well as my med/surg book and make notes. I also take the practice exams that EC has to offer before every exam---like 2 weeks before and study the answers and rationals as well. Knock on wood I have never failed an exam....Hoping to continue that streak. On to LS3 next then FCCA! Finally can see the light at the end of the tunnel.:)
Do you feel like the practice exams are worth it?
I took a couple of the Excelsior online courses...Art, and something else for Gen Ed requirements, the rest I just took the exams for the nursing theory credits! I'm almost finished, but wanted to say welcome...i work full time, have 3 kids ages 3, 6, & 7 (who were 1, 4 and 5 when i started btw), my husband is in the army too...that being said you can do it if you just put your mind too it, go on facebook too and look for the Excelsior College and ECE pages, lots of good info and current students as well.
You can see in my signature when i took what...a few tips i've learned along the way...use ebay and amazon to buy older versions of the textbooks for a MUCH cheaper price, Chancellors study guides with audio when found on ebay were always really good info, i never felt like i had too much or too little info with those. Do NOT sign up with Rue or The College Network unless you want to pay an additional $5K in fees...There are many third party places that offer publications to help you study Study Group 101, etc, i tried all at least once til i found my groove...you can also PM me, i have a link to a 3rd party video/lecture for the nursing courses that i found very helpful and allowed me to zip through the nursing portion. For Microbiology and A&P, I recommend purchasing and downloading VANGONOTES that correspond to the recommended textbook. I also used Microbiology Demystified book, and Barron's A&P the Easy way and A&P demystified. I couldn't understand the textbooks...lol...good luck and welcome aboard!

Hi all. I passed Developmental Psych!
If anyone is interested in a Skype study group for Transitions to RN please feel free to email me at [email protected]. I have met with another student online and plan to meet weekly. We met today and swapped study strategies and plan to meet next Tues night. We're working on the first section of the content guide right now.
Good luck in all your studies.
Dianne
