Mother of 6 month old deciding what shift to work

Published

My daughter is 6 months old and I have not returned to work since she has been born. We recently moved to another state for my husbands job and I need to start applying for jobs. My question to you working mothers is what shift worked best for your family (especially when they were babies) we have no family to help so she will either have to go to daycare or be here with my husband when I work.

With infants -- 1500-2300. (That shift becomes more problematic when the kids are in school, at least for full time work.) The baby spends less time in daycare, and both parents sleep at night. When my oldest was little, I dropped her at daycare at 1400, and my husband picked her up around 1700.

This is a bizarre question to ask of strangers since every family is different, but I'll play along. I prefer to work overnight. I also have friends who also have babies and wish to work during the day for various reasons. The "right" answer will vary based on your specific circumstances.

Yeah that seems like it would work best! Thank you!! I am going to check if they have any of those shifts available :)

When I worked in the hospital, most of my colleagues who were mothers of young children worked nights. We were primarily a 12 hr 7a-7p or 7p-7a floor, though.

thank you so much

Dayshift. That's what works for my family though. My husband has a job where he can pick the kids up at 3 on the days I work and is off on weekends.

Nights and weekends
