Hi everyone! I'm going to be graduating nursing school this May and am starting to research my options. I'm really leaning toward Morristown Memorial, and was wondering if anyone had any useful info that I could use or should know about. Thanks!!
Ive been doing clinical rotations are at Morristown this semester. They could definitely use help. Like others said, they do pick from their extern pool first but you should still apply. The med-surg floors are very busy. The OR might be looking for help and the nurses there like being there. If you can stop by, there is a bulletin board by the cafeteria with job openings, and it will take you at least 15 mins to go through.
Someone else mentioned NY hopsitals and I agree--defintely apply to places in NY. I'll be doing my extership at Memorial Sloan Kettereing. The recruiters there really have it together and the hospital is hiring. Go to job fairs (Sloan Kettering attends many of them).
If you apply to Hackensack, beware of who interviews you. I had a horrible experience with them during my interviews for an externship, and will never apply there when I graduate. Others have had better experiences with other interviewers.
Try Overlook Hospital. I hear good things about them, but you have to keep on them after applying. Mountainside Hospital in Montclair has a hiring process that isnt bad.
thanks decartes!
do you think there will be a lot of opportunity to practice with "skills" (blood draws, foleys, IVs, etc)? I haven't had a ton of opportunity to practice with this in my clinicals so far and know I need all the experience I can get!
Also, what types of surgeries do the patients come from? or is it just a huge assortment? I am on Jefferson, if that makes a difference
I don't know about your practicing invasive skills sans a license due to legal liability. I guess it will depend upon your preceptor. Just absorb as much as what's presented to you.
If it's J1 SDU you're going to, you're going to get medical cases as well. You'll see different types of surgery cases but most will lean towards a vascular nature.

Hello All! I was wondering how hard it was to get into Morristown. I met with HR and the Nurse Educator and then met with a nurse manager for med/surg in the begining of feb (feb 5th to be exact) she said HR will give me a call when I left. I never have received a call from them. I spoke with the nurse manager last week and she said she will look into what is going on (she had my resume still), still haven't heard anything... Should I be worried and start looking elsewhere or does it usually take a while to hear something? Thanks!
