Hi everyone! I'm going to be graduating nursing school this May and am starting to research my options. I'm really leaning toward Morristown Memorial, and was wondering if anyone had any useful info that I could use or should know about. Thanks!!

Do some externship during your breaks, apply for EARLY (Jan) and make good efforts in following up your status. This might apply to every place you apply to.
From what I've heard, MMH has a very strong new nurse program. I'm currently a new hire and I am beginning to see why.
Good luck!
Hi descartes, thanks for the info! I did an externship program at Hackettstown, closer to home for me. I take it you're a new grad/hire at Morristown?? Do you have any contact info that you could pass on to me as far recruiters/other important contacts go??? Thanks so much, I appreciate your response!!

From what I have heard, MMH gives preference to those who have done an externship at the hospital. It would open the doors for you to work in the unit you want.
yea....understandable....lol. basically here's the story- i go to school in maryland and at the last minute decided to come home to Jersey for an externship. By that time, it was too late to apply to Morristown, and although I did my externship at another hospital, it's definitely not Morristown like I wanted. Plus, I do not have much of an opportunity to do another externship, as I have a senior practicum to do over winter break. But thank you so much for the info!! I am going to be applying as soon as possible, and I will do the best I can with what I have...I'm a fighter and will try the best I can! I really love ER/trauma/citical care, but am willing to do a MedSurg unit for some time to get my feet wet. What unit are you working on?? Thanks so much again!!
I work in a surgical step down unit. It is not necessary to do an externship to get a position at MMH. However, MMH does not take new grads into critical care areas like ICU and ER unless you were an extern or worked in such areas in MMH. I didn't do any externship and the SSDU was the closest I got to ICU or ER (my preferred units). When you interview, just be honest in the area you want to work in but mention that you recognize the need to gain experience in other units before being considered. They will match you up in a unit where you will gain the experience needed to pursue the unit you want to work in.

i recently applied for the new hire learning program for RN graduates. i wanted to check the status of my application but it seems that whenever its regarding status application MMH already has a recorded voice message saying "someone will get back to you". how else can i get their attention? i cant seem to find anyone to talk to besides a recorded voice message =(. working there would be my dream job ;] and its something i really want for so many reasons. any ideas how else i can put myself out there?
Perhaps visit HR to follow up. Persistence was the key in my friend's acquisition of a NICU position in Hackensack University Medical. You just have to properly play the fine line between persistence and annoying. If you have a dream, GO FOR IT! If you have any attending MD friends who work there, have them put in a word for you to the nursing recruiters.
As for me, I really don't know how I got in. I did call a couple of times and my buddy's Dad apparently spoke to a nurse recruiter for me. What he said??? I don't know.

hi i've read your messages and im very happy nurses are happy and very willing to work at MMH, i am actually a nurse in Venezuela my home country, i've being here in morristown nj since last november that i got married, my applications to state licensure have been a big trouble just because i got in the middle of them changing the requirements, i mean the credential evaluation reports we need and toefl (english test) score requirements, i only need 1 point to obtain my final requirement done for the state to make me eligible to take the NCLEX which ive already been preparing for the last year...
Can any of you who are already working at MMH have any idea of what opportunities do i have while I wait to sit for my nclex?? being a foreign nurse and not having my rn licence yet is kind of hard to be in a position. Can you help me??? plis any information or suggestion id appreciate it.
Thanxs, alejandra
I suggest that you well prepare yourself for the NCLEX.
ok thanxs!
how was your experience with the test, ive been studying for a while, i've made a lot of test type question in the computer, have a couple of books of review questions, but my doubt is that coming from another country and the education being in general the same but at the end different, i dont know if i have to know that some sections are harder or more asked than others. If you have an opinion on that?
thanxs again.
you like working at morristown? what department at you working at?
Many of my cohorts along with myself believe that the Kaplan Question Trainers played a huge role in our passing t he NCLEX. You might want to look into that along with reading the Kaplan Strategies book at your nearest Barnes and Noble Bookstore where you can read it there instead of buy it.
I really like working in MMH. Very supportive atmosphere for nurses as far as I can see. I work in the Step Down Unit.
