Morning Sickness

Published

Have a question about morning sickness....what drugs (if any)do OB/GYN's say are safe to take for morning sickness in pregnancy? I have looked at I think all the OTC stuff and they are class B pregnancy or in the case of Zantac class C. Have been meaning to ask this question to some Docs but keep forgetting....

Any info would be GREAT! Crackers are not the answer!

I agree.

Sick with my girl fine after delivery.

Not sick with my boy had all kind of postpartum troubles.

As far as I know, the doctors up here in Canada prescribe Diclectin, 1 to 2 tabs, 3x/day as needed. Seems to work for everyone:D

I had three girls, and had serious morning sickness with the first two, and only mild morning sickness with the third pregnancy. I recall having to go to the hospital for hydration via IV, eating LOTS of saltine crackers a "pinch" at a time because the whole cracker would make me throw up too. When the morning sickness stopped, the backache and ligament tearing began. Sure am glad THOSE DAYS are over. :rotfl:

Oh, I am so sorry to hear your wife is so sick. I had hyperemesis and threw up 8x a day on average EVERY single day starting at week 5 1/2 and stopping at week 30 (when I only thre up 1-3x a day until I delivered). Coincidentally I had a BOY and the other 2 women who I know having HG also had boys so I am not sure how much that hormonal girl theory holds true BUT...

I tried soda crackers, TUMS, ginnger, sprite--all the regular old remedies that have been mentioned here already. Nothing worked, I lost 27lbs in a matter of weeks and had to take something. I didnt start any meds until 9 weeks because I had lost 10 lbs in a matter of a week or so.

I started on Phenergan, hated the stuff. Ended up on Zofran (class B) and it worked fairly good, although I only took it once in awhile because I am a paranoid person and always thought any meds in pergnancy were bad. I only took 8mg once a week, cut down on the amount I vomited each day but didn't stop it or the 24/7 nausea I had.

You can find a TON of info on medsfor sickness in pregnancy at http://www.hyperemesis.org

I ended up taking quite a bit of Zofran by the end of the pregnancy and also started on 75mg of Zantac daily from 2-3 trimesters. My baby boy was just born 8 months ago, VERY healthy and thriving.

I hope your wife feels better soon.

Oh, also the ONLY thing that I was able to eat was mcdonalds fries--it was seriosuly the ONLY thing I never threw up the entire time. I had it so bad, had to quit my job, couldn't move or I would barf. Hope it isn't as bad the next time (yeah, I would like to get pregnant again-Crazy!!)
