More men pleeeaaaasse get into nursing!!!

Published

I just read that closed thread, and it disturbed me. I am not trying to open it back up.

I just want to say that I think there are so many positives to men being in this professsion, and men can be nurturing/caring without being gay. I know of some personally.

SO MEN DON'T BE DETERRED! I love yas :welcome:

I actually want to marry a man that's sensitive....and I don't mean feminine sensitive. I mean someone who's caring, like a decent human being. Ya'll know what I mean!! Macho guys w/ no heart and just want me for my body scare me. I am so sick of that. So I think a nurse that's also a male would be the perfect boyfriend. I'm single!! :loveya: lol

Thank you for the encouragement. I start my program in the fall and I'm looking forward to being a male nurse.

oh you are already a male. You are only going to become a nurse, not an extra male. hehehe :roll

I have had several female nurses tell me that they thought that more men needed to become nurses.

Another guy here makin' a run for it! School starts in 2 months. IMO, men are just easier to deal with in general and balance is a good thing when it comes to work place dynamics.

Yes, there are a few of us guy nurses, and yes, some of us are quite sensitive. Before I was half-way through nursing school, I decided pediatrics was what I wanted to do-and it has been 90% of my ten year career. There has been many times I have sat down in the breakroom with tears rolling down both cheeks. The funny thing is they're usually there because of wonderful, happy, or miraculous things I see. A lot of what men are like has so much to do with how they are raised, so many still raised with the toughguy-boys don't cry attitude; I never had to deal with that.Oh, by the way, what did I do before I was a nurse? I was a sensitive AUTO_MECHANIC!(seriously)

LOL! Brings back memories of clinical with a fellow male student. We were given our assignments and tasks, looked at each other and somehow accomplished them in a systematic manner. The nurses of the PICU seemed to be amazed with our efficiency.

Interestingly, in nursing classes, particularly in the practicals, the men seem to automatically work together smoothly, and get things done faster. If you see a bunch of male nursing students or co-workers work together. Observe. It's quite interesting.

This thread makes it seem like working with women is the worst thing in the world and that we need men to come to our rescue. :o

I think we've said enough about a thread that was closed, so I'll close this one. I'm not of the mindset "we need more men in nursing". We need nurses period. If you have that compassionate edge I'd love to work with you, gay, straight, male and female. There is a Male Nurses forum here at Allnurses for your viewing and posting pleasure.

Thanks. :)
