Hey guys! I couldn't find a thread for the Fall '18 semester so I figured I start one so that we can all share and support each other while we anxiously wait for our acceptance letters. I'm just curious what every one else applied with and if you guys applied to any other programs. What where your numbers?
I got a adjusted score of 74% on my TEAS and a 90.7% on my reading, I have a 3.5 gpa, and all of my pre and co requisites completed. I got into the nursing program last year with the listed above requirement and had to declined due to a high risk pregnancy. I am still nervous for this upcoming fall semester. Has any one else experienced this and still got accepted? Also has anyone attended in information session on what exactly to expect time wise in the programs, such as how many days a week will be need on campus?
Hey amomani I actually plan to pursue BSN once I'm done getting my ASN at MC. They have bridge transition program with UMD shady grove that guarantees admission (if you meet science gpa criteria and all prereqs completed) for your BSN. My main goal is becoming a CRNA so I'm aiming for my Doctorate but I have a long way to go. Well, not long lol but time consuming I should say.
Gotcha! It's a lot of work but worth it. I work with a few CRNA's who love it. When you say science GPA, are you referring to the science GPA we obtained during the nursing program itself, or in general from montgomery college? My science GPA with my general science classes at MC isn't the best, but I plan on focusing completely during the program.
For the UMD transition program you have to have your prereq 4 sciences completed and above a 3.0 (212,213,210,131) I haven't done chem 131 yet but my overall science gpa isn't the best either so at some point prior to applying I'll have to retake 2 of them. 213 and 210. I've looked into other BSN programs and they require pretty much the same science gpa to apply. But I'm with you though once this program begins I'll be strictly focused on it.
Hey @amomani, did you get your letter? I live in Hyattsville and haven't gotten anything. I might not get in for the fall since I didn't have AP2 by the deadline. My backup plan is to finish Microbio and Chem in the fall and apply again for the spring. I want to do the ADN-BSN or ADN-MS at UMD after MC also.
Joyp79,
I still haven't received anything! I'm sure the holiday helped in delaying some of the letters. I know the school told me it'll all be sent out in intervals of a week to two weeks. I'm up in Germantown so hopefully I'll get mine soon. I'm already looking at the curriculum as to what classes will be demanded in the first semester etc. I have no idea what the workload is like, so im preparing for a lot as a working single mom.
Please update me on what classes/how many you guys all decide to take the first semester!
To all those wondering, I checked the ADN to BSN program transfer agreement for UMSON from montgomery college. You need a 2.75 GPA in sciences! So if you were a high C average, there's still a possibility that you may be able to do it. Just to put anyone at ease who may need it! I wasn't the best in my sciences so knowing this information helped me a lot.
I looked in the Nursing handbook from last year and the curriculum shows that the first semester should be;
That's if you don't need any other prereqs. They say the Pathophysiology & Pharm in Nursing (2 CREDITS) class can be taken before, during, or after semester 2. I have NO IDEA just how hard the first semester required classes are, so I have no idea if I should take the Patho class during my first semester too.
I really want to get that out the way but Im afraid it'll be too much to handle and I'll flunk my way out. Has anyone gotten feedback on the Pathophys/Pharm class to know if they recommend taking it first semester or after?
I don't think the number of credit hours really determines the difficulty in the class.
When I went to the info session, I talked to a current nursing student who said that Pathophysiology/Pharmacology was the hardest class for some. She also said that sometimes it is offered during the summer, too. It seems like a lot of memorizing...I think I'll take it second semester...I am also afraid of overload during the 1st semester.
