I sent in my application for the fall at Montgomery College today. The deadline is March 1st. Does anyone know about how long I can expect to wait before I get an answer?
Thx,
Nikki
Hi bluewonder,
The dept requires a min. score of 83% for reading. But you did very well for your overall score.
Have you applied for the fall or will you be applying for next spring? You have 8.85 for your GPA- 3.85? If you are applying for spring, def. take the teas again to bring up your reading score. The deadline for spring is July 1, unless they extend it (again).
thanks for your reply, lil, dragon
I just finished my first TEAS last week without good preparation, but it is hard to improve reading in a short time. I don't want to take the risk to take the second TEAS in this month. You mean I cannot apply for the spring semester anymore? or even I do so, there is no opportunity to get in? The reading section was really tricky. Is it easy to get in the fall program than spring?
You're welcome. I know what you mean by- it being hard to improve the reading score. It was tricky and subjective. A friend/classmate of mine took the Teas last month and she got a 74%. You're not alone. I barely passed it myself-83.7%. From my understanding, if the min. requirements are not made, applications will not be considered. You may want to contact the dept to get a definite answer. I've heard spring is easier to get into b/c of less apps.
I agree with Kristian bluewonder. You need to retake the TEAS and hope to score at least 83% on the reading. If you get the TEAS study manual, it will help you attack the reading as will the book Secrets to taking the TEAS exam (or something like that). I agree that it was tricky and subjective. I too just barely passed it with an 83.4%. And I believe Kristian is right with the app deadline, but they may extend it.
I had contacted UMD for their BSN program. I asked about the TEAS. I was told that they do not have a specified required score for it but it was suggested that you not get below 74% overall and the better your science GPA, the better. Their app deadline is Sept. 1 for spring I believe. But as I understand it, it is tough getting in there too. One of the gals on here did well all around and she still didn't get in but was just accepted to MC. So you may want to retake the TEAS in time to apply to MC as a backup, but also apply to UMD. There are other schools too but I don't know much about their requirements.
Good luck!
Hello bluewonder,
I applied to the BSN program at Maryland but didn't get in. My Reading score was a 92.5% and my overall TEAS score was an 87.1%. My GPA was a 3.38 with 3 As and 1 C in my 4 science courses (Biology, A&P I, A&P II, and Micro). I got flat out rejected from Maryland, not even waitlisted! I was really bummed...but thankfully I got into MC as my back-up so now I'm going to apply to Maryland's RN-BSN program once I finish the ADN program at MC and pass the NCLEX.
I would definitely say to retake the TEAS and use the study manual (they sell it at the MC bookstore). Spring semester always gets fewer applicants so your chances of getting accepted are much higher. The deadline for Spring 2012 is July 1 so you need to take the TEAS before then. I think (but am not positive) that the scores come up automatically and if you take it at MC you won't have to "send them in" because they'll already have them...but double check on that too before doing it because again, I'm not positive.
Good luck!
