I sent in my application for the fall at Montgomery College today. The deadline is March 1st. Does anyone know about how long I can expect to wait before I get an answer?
Thx,
Nikki
I GOT IN!!! YAY!!! My mom just called me and nearly gave me a heart attack by telling me at first that the mail came and the letter wasn't with it...what a cruel little jokester! Lol...Now I can finally enjoy the rest of my holiday weekend vacay! :) Congrats to everyone else who was accepted!! I'll be on here again on Monday night when I go home and actually can look at the letter itself.
LOL I love that you call me "the baby of the bunch"! I'm usually one of the oldest in the class, and definitely the only one in my study groups with a child. Have any of you decided where you're going to get your CPR/First Aid certs from? I can't remember if I read it on this post or somewhere else, but apparently many hospitals prefer their nurses to be AHA (American Heart Association) certified over Red Cross. The only somewhat-close places I could find where they had AHA certified classes are in Bladensburg, MD and Alexandria, VA. If I'll have to get recertified before finding a job though, I may just hold off on that until I start job hunting. Red Cross seems to be the most convenient way to go...
Montgomery College offers it too for Healthcare providers, I took it last year hoping to start in Jan. but my youngest was still in nursery school and I just didnt feel ready to tackle nursing school until she was in school fulltime (yeah..this Fall starts K as I start the Nursing Program)...it is a one-day course and relatively easy and cheap :-)
So am I right in guessing many of you are in their 40s like me doing a career/back to work switch? If so, Im so glad I wont be the only one in class doing that :-)

I read it on this thread (read all the comments, there's only 11 of them):

I haven't read the letter yet, so I don't know if it specifically states that the CPR/First Aid certifications have to be from a certain organization. Does it say? I would assume they're all the same, but this thread discusses the "differences" between BLS (which is from AHA) and CPR/AED. But apparently, the BLS is just another type of CPR certification? I'm not too sure; but it seems like the BLS is more hardcore for healthcare professionals. If you can decipher the information better, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it! :)
Andrea - I would say if you aren't sure, you should email the lady who is listed on our letter. But it appears to me that regardless, once we graduate, we will be due to renew our certifications anyway. Some people said they were interchangeable terms and some say that BLS is for licensed healthcare professionals. I would think for our current situation and the fact that certification is only good for 1-2 years, just go for whatever is most convenient for you. If you find out something else, please share.
