Montgomery College, how long?

Published

I sent in my application for the fall at Montgomery College today. The deadline is March 1st. Does anyone know about how long I can expect to wait before I get an answer?

Thx,

Nikki

Yeah, I was wondering that Andrea...if people with last names earlier in the alphabet got first pick or if they place you. Like you, I already had my schedule pretty much picked out. Of course, we still would have to remain flexible once we pick our clinicals. We don't have much control over that since it is done by lottery.

I heard the same thing Andrea - not enough qualified applicants and they didn't want to lower their standards since their nursing program is so well respected and highly ranked. If they lose that notoriety then they would lose state/county funds.

I know it's tough still waiting. I just don't see why you girls would be denied or put on the wait list. It does make sense to extend the deadline to fill seats w/ qualified ppl. I think MC still has 88 seats for the first semester. Around what time do you get the mail?

Do they have an overall science GPA requirement like UMB's 3.0 requirement? I know that you have to have a 2.5 to be considered but I think that's just the cumulative GPA requirement. I don't know if they have a specific science GPA requirement...if so, what is it? I think mine is a 3.5 IF they include General Bio, Micro, A&P I, and A&P II. But if they only count Micro and A&P then my science GPA is only a 3.3.

My TEAS score was an 87% on the first try and my science and reading scores are well above the required percentages, but I'm still not confident...

I wish they had asked for professor recommendations. I got some 3 great ones for UMB: one from my Micro prof, one from my Organic Chemistry prof, and one from my A&P II prof. I feel like they don't have much to go off of, just our GPAs and TEAS scores, so if everyone has around the same scores how would they narrow it down??

Yes, I heard 88 spots as well but when I went to an health sciences info session they said they accepted 106, assuming many would have selected other options. But yes, there are only 88 spots. My mail usually comes around 1pm.

That doesn't seem fair that just because your last name begins with a letter in the beginning of the alphabet, you get first dibs on classes. I don't really know how that's gonna work...

I am trying to take all my classes on Mondays and Wednesdays that way I have Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays (and the weekends) to do labs and clinicals and that way I could be more flexible with the clinical schedulings.

I can't imagine them not having enough qualified applicants for their program. If you ask me, I think their requirements are a little on the low side: 2.5 overall GPA and 66% on the TEAS. I can't imagine us not getting in if they weren't getting enough applicants to meet those standards. But let me not jinx myself...

Andrea, that is why I assume we will be getting accepted. We all had relatively close scores/gpas. MC just has an overall 2.5 GPA requirement but I've been told from hearsay that they really look at the sciences. I barely skated by the minimum on the reading section of the TEAS. I did above average in the other areas as well and got 98th percentile in the science section and a 96th percentile overall. I too only took it once. I don't know if that accounts for anything though.

I think the difficult part of their requirements is passing the reading on the TEAS. A smart friend of mine just took it and didn't pass the reading section. I personally found that section rather tricky and subjective. What one person interprets could be different than what someone else interprets, but that doesn't necessarily make it wrong. IDK, just my two cents.

I think part of the issue with applicants is 1) a lot of students are probably opting for the BSN given the recent trends in nursing and 2) many students apply before actually finishing all the prereqs, which is a determinant for success in the program.

I don't recall a min. GPA requirement for sciences. But grades for A & P 1&2 and Micro are weighed-in during the decision process.

You both have a higher Teas score than I do and your GPA and other grades are very good. It would be messed up if you don't get accepted.

Sending some good vibes your way!

Have you thought about where you'll be going for vaccs/titers?

I just got it!!!!! I am officially a nursing student too!!!!! Woo hoo!!!! Now I can relax.

I must say though, it would be nice iff they actually put our names on the acceptance letter rather than a general greeting like, "dear accepted first semester nursing student."
