Here is our new thread ladies (Nikki, Andrea, Kristian, Marissa...and whoever else will be starting at MC this fall).
I wonder why our's isn't in the morning, not that I'm complaining. Better to avoid traffic anyway. I'd love to be as close to campus as Andrea and Marissa.
Oh I totally forgot about my neighbor. She used to work for the dermatologist that I mentioned (the office job). She now cares for children. I don't know her schd., though. Do you want me to talk to her and have her call you?
Do you know your neighbor well Kristian? Put it this way, if you had kids, would you trust her to watch them? If so, then yes, please feel free to inquire about her availability and interest. Aside from being nurturing, patient, energetic, caring (and all the other things that go with being a perfect nanny) she must have her own transportation, be ok with cats and be willing to watch sick children. I'm looking at around $10/hr at most, depending on qualifications, experience, references. Obviously, CPR and first aid training is a plus. English speaking is a must.
I had another lady contact me today. She wanted $20/hr!!!!! I contacted the program at my son's school. If the price is reasonable I might just do that. It is within walking distance and my son would just go there after school and be with his brother. I'd have to find a backup plan if they are sick though as I doubt they would be willing to watch sick kids.
We've been neighbors for about 7 yrs. Yes, I'd trust her w/ my kids w/ out a doubt. Both my hubby and I are very fond of the family. She and her hubby have a daughter in college. They have been awesome neighbors. She has a car and English is no problem, not sure about cats, but they are thinking about getting a dog. As for CPR and first aid-don't know. I'll talk to her this wknd when I know she's home.
$20/hr? Does she have some special skills we don't know about? What's the avg. rate these days?
Ok, thanks. The lady was in her 40s and raised like 4 or 5 kids of her own and had some "special" approach with kids. I don't really know. I was going to interview her until I saw her rate. I'm not sure what the going rate is these days. I actually just asked that on facebook. It seems to vary greatly. The last gal we had was willing to do it for $7/hr and we paid her $8.50.
I nannied for 2 yrs-that was around 20 yrs ago. Thinking back, I got paid well-started @ 8.50/hr, then up to about 10/hr. When I was working for my uncle (the MD), I was making 18/hr when I left @ age 19! Can you believe that? Silly me, left cuz I wanted do something else. My friend took over and worked there a few yrs.
Oh yeah, those banner ads have gotten really good at targeting you and your preferences. It is like ad stalking!
Wow, that is a great hourly rate so long ago. I've contacted 10 ladies I saw on the website. I've had 3 or 4 respond and they all turned me down. Either they couldn't meet my needs or they wanted too much money. This sucks.

LOL!! Let me know when, I'll be there!
I made an appt for the 2nd Hep B for Aug. 4. I'll talk to the nurse next wk when I'm there for the 2nd MMR about getting the Hep B then too, but I'll most likely have to wait since it'll be a wk early.
Nikki, when is the interviewee coming? Yeah, public transportation can be a problem; delays are common. I hope you find the right person-there's still time to interview several ppl.
