Here is our new thread ladies (Nikki, Andrea, Kristian, Marissa...and whoever else will be starting at MC this fall).
There are supposed to be downloadable updates and online tools. I browsed the site and so far haven't seen anything that can be downloaded. I think I'll grab a 2012 from ebay, I have ebay bucks I need to use before it expires.
Hey Nikki, it seems the young lady is very interested! And given that the boys played well together, it may be the perfect situation. My neighbor isn't home today, I think they left early this morning. Will give you an update after speaking w/ her.
Visit with my aunt was nice. DH made steak and lobster before he rushed out to his poker game.
Got a bunch of no's tonight from other gals I contacted. Too far, already have a job, going back to school, etc. I really hope I don't only have the one option.
You guys getting excited about registration? Anyone hear from Marissa lately? I wonder if she is still planning to attend this fall.
Hey Nikki, good to hear you had a nice time w/ your aunt. What movie did you see? We were up 'til about 3am catching up on some movies.
Don't worry, there's still time. When did you call your neighbor and the daycare?
Yes, very excited! But also irritated. It's been 2 months since our letters and I wanna finally get registration over with.
I emailed Marissa a few mins ago. We should see her on Tue. I'd think she would go ahead w/ registration to secure a seat. I'll give you girls an update when she writes back.
YUM! I love lobster, how can something that looks so unappetizing be absolutely delicious? But then again, we don't look at a cow thinking man, you'd look good on my dinner plate tonight! Well...at least I don't.
Did you say you received your backpack? And have you decided to go w/ the nurse kit?
Did my first water aerobics today. It was great. Didn't feel like I was exercising and never broke a sweat but they assured me I'd be feeling it in 2-3 days. Probably not your type of workout Kristian. I'd love to go more often but with the Germantown indoor pool closed for renovations they aren't offering many aquatics classes. I plan to continue to go. Heck, why not? She isn't charging me and my DH is home to watch the kids.
I emailed both the daycare and my neighbor thurs or fri. My neighbor doesn't usually take that long to get back to me so maybe she is trying to talk it over with her husband and her nanny. But the day care...I don't know. It is weird that I haven't heard anything back. I guess I will have to just call them. I figure it would cost us around $1K/mo for childcare if we hired a nanny. I doubt daycare would be cheaper but we shall see. When I threw the number out to my husband yesterday I think he clenched his teeth really hard to prevent himself from screaming out some cuss words (the kids were in the car). For some reason he told me not to file for financial aid. Thought it would be best to try to manage it ourselves and pay out of pocket so as not to go further into debt (he has thousands and thousand from student loans that he is still paying off). But me thinks it would have eased the burden in the short run.
I ordered the backpack but haven't gotten it yet. Probably won't come until the week before school starts. And I am waiting on purchasing a kit until I see all this stuff from the vendor on Tuesday. Do you want to meet up beforehand...like just find each other at a certain location?
Good for you, Nikki! Hey that's still more exercise than what the avg. person gets. Yeah, I like to see and feel sweat pouring off during my workouts. I just finished a bowl of oatmeal, nuts and dried cranberries to fuel up for my rigorous wkout in about an hr or 2.
Yes, def. keep it up. I find that it decreases stress and PMS.
$1k/mo isn't too bad, so basically $250 a wk. Around 25 hrs a week? Yeah, financial aid would be helpful right now. At least you guys won't need to worry about paying back another loan in the future.
Sure, let's meet. I was planing to arrive about a 1/2 before. Want to meet in the Cultural Arts Center. They have tables and chairs in the lobby. Or we could meet at the cafe for coffee, then go to the Science Center.
Yeah, I'm figuring about 25 hours/wk with commute time. I asked the gal if she would charge less while watching just one child. She said she could do that. Most gals have done that in the past. I don't know if she needs to make a certain amount to sustain the family household but I'm worried it won't be enough for her. I just contacted 2 other day cares as well.
Funny, I was up until 3am myself...just browsing the web and reading.
Where are we supposed to go for registration? I really need to go find my papers. Yes we can meet in the culture center. That is where orientation was, correct? Meet at 11:30?
Well she said that there was one family that had 3 girls all under the age of 2. One set of twins and a cousin. I got the impression this would be too much for her and her son wouldn't have a boy to play with. She mentioned something about a family with an autistic boy that wasn't high on her list.
I've got another interview scheduled (with the lady who originally wanted $20/hr) but after doing some internet research I discovered she is deaf. She had a video posted on her myspace page and I can hear her talking. It is very difficult to understand and with my son having issues with speech she just won't be a good fit. Maybe I can use her as a backup or something. He does use some signs and I would think she is familiar with ASL. I don't want to discriminated but I have to choose someone who will be a good fit for my kid's situations.
A couple other, older ladies are interested as well. One was watching her grandkids but the youngest will be off to school and I guess she isn't needed much anymore. Don't know much about the other one yet.
So I have a total of 3 possibilities right now, not including the woman with the hearing disability. I'm also planning to call a few day cares today.
Too bad about Marissa and her sister. I hope Lisa improves. Having the love and support of such a wonderful sister has to help.
Nikki, I totally agree with you about wanting someone who would be able to effectively communicate with your youngest. Especially since you won't be there to "translate". It sounds like the girl with the boy your son's age is your best bet. It would be great for him to have a playmate all day...almost like a very small daycare lol. Regular daycare is incredibly expensive, which is why I've remained a SAHM for the last 4 years, only going to school part-time. I would practically have gotten a job just to pay for my son to go to daycare. Didn't make any sense at all to me and DH. I really hope your first choice caregiver comes through for you.
I just read Marissa's e-mail. I feel horrible that they're going through this. It's so frustrating to know that you're doing everything you can and still not getting the results you want, especially when your or your loved one's health is involved. I hope her condition improves very soon.
You guys are so lucky that your registration is tomorrow! I still have to wait 2 more days! Let me know what the assignment is, if you get it. I'm so excited! Make sure to post your schedules once you know them. I hope we all have at least one class together :) Good luck tomorrow!
Good to hear there are some options. It sounds like your family would be the best fit for her (the young gal). And the other ladies may be potential back-ups. The lady w/ grandkids may be interested being on-call...
I feel awful about what they are going through. It takes a lot strength and courage.

Andrea, I think you got the same bookbag as me, mine is just on wheels. Glad to hear it is perfect.
I got the 2011 drug handbook too. I didn't see a 2012 while I was searching for books...or maybe I just went with whatever they told us to get. Don't remember. But I know that while I was searching for a med dictionary I tried to find one that was recent.
Well the interview went well this morning. She showed up early and our kids played wonderfully together. Her son is 13 months and Liam, my 2 year old, loved having a little pal around. So that was a definite plus. Her rate is reasonable and, for being young, she seems to be well organized, structured, and have a good head on her shoulders. She had tons of certs and such from teaching in a preschool and accredidation through the state. She gave me the impression that we are her favorite so far, though I think we are only like 3rd. She said she was interviewing with 6 families in all, the last interview on the 6th of Aug. She said she wanted someone who had a child who would play with her son, rather than someone with a baby that she'd have to hold all the time, leaving her little guy bored. I think that is the case with one of the families she is interviewing with. She also said that one of the families has an autistic child. She doesn't have experience with that and said that while she feels she could do it she didn't really want to be it depresses her. I can understand that. So she is looking pretty good right now.
I offered for the gal who was asking for $20/hr to come tomorrow for an interview and never heard back from her. Other than that I've got a couple other gals interested but none of them look promising. I haven't heard from the daycare/preschool behind my house nor have I heard from my neighbor about the nanny share.
