Montgomery College, Fall 2011, 1st semester students

Published

Here is our new thread ladies (Nikki, Andrea, Kristian, Marissa...and whoever else will be starting at MC this fall).

I tried emailing Prof. Matthews and she is out of office until the 12th.

Hey Nikki, sorry to hear about your son. Glad he's doing better! What did they do for him?

She's out of the office again? Makes no sense cuz she's the only contact that we have there. I was wondering the same thing about weekend drop off. I don't know if the building will be open.

Almost decided to reschedule my follow-up appt... I show up and the NP is out sick. They left me a message...didn't get it. I was sent to the urgent care nurses downstairs and after a lot confusion, I was able to complete the health form! PA finished it. No immunity to Hep B, so got the shot- 2nd one in a month. Looks like I'll be there a few more times.

Basically just had him on a nebulizer for a bit and said that cleared up his lungs and then gave him a steroid to help the inflammation in his lungs. So I was sent home with a device with an asthma inhaler attached to it (easier than struggling with him for the nebulizer) which he needs every 4 hours, in addition to the antibiotic he got earlier for his strep. He didn't wake up until a bit after 1pm today. I thought it best to just let him sleep. Thank goodness my husband stayed home this morning to take my oldest to camp so he could keep sleeping.

Ya, I thought the same thing about Prof. Matthews...she's our sole contact and she won't be back until a few days prior to the deadline???? So she was out of office before too? I wonder if there is someone else we can call and ask about weekend access. My son has a followup at the pediatrician in the morning after I drop off my oldest at camp. Depending on how long that takes, I may try to head to campus after that.

Oh, wanted to add...sorry for all the hassle at UMD this morning. I'd of been so ticked off and would have let them know it. Hopefully things are more orderly when you go back. So you are all set to submit your packet then?

I called the admin in nursing and was given a number to call about Sat hours. I was told the building is open from 7:30a-5pm and there is a guard at the front. If I sign in I should be able to get through and drop off the packet in the metal box outside their office, room 327.

Thanks. Yeah, both she and the director were out 2 wks ago when the nurses @ UMD tried to reach them and no one else knew enough to answer any questions.

I had to use a nebulizer about 10 yrs ago for allergic asthma (??). Weird cuz never had any issues after that summer.

Everything is finished except the MMR follow-up, the 2 Hep B vacc in the series and the flu shot. I'll drop it off early next wk if the building is closed during the wknd.

Thanks for the info.

Health and Sciences building?

I wonder if Andrea is ok, it's strange that she's been absent. She had an appt for her MMR this morning.

Oh, are we supposed to turn in lab work for CBC and urinalysis also? Sorry for all the posts.

I am turning in ALL labwork. If they don't need it, then they can toss it. I've made copies of everything for my own records.

Andrea has been on facebook. She was in Hershey with her family and such. She ok.

Whatever that building next to where we were is. Don't recall the actual name, but should be something like that. Maybe Health Technology? For some reason I am thinking the building had HT for it's acronym. Maybe I am confusing it with something on Germantown's campus.

Oh, I was talking to my son's nurse last night in the pediatric ER. I asked her if she was an ADN or BSN. She was totally confused and said, "just a regular RN." LOL. I said, no, your education. She went to Frederick CC and got her ADN. I asked her if it was tough getting a job with only the ADN and she said a lot of the community hospitals like Shady Grove, etc don't care. She said the harder part was getting a job as a new grad. I asked if she did her clinicals at SG and she said she did her pediatrics there. I asked if that was in her last semester and if that is what helped her get her job and she said yes.

Glad to hear your son is OK!

I am turning in all my labwork as well. My doctor required a 6 month followup CBC since my white blood cell count was slightly higher than the normal range so hopefully that won't be an issue with the MC nursing program.

And in making copies of all my paperwork, I just saw she didn't check the box next to TDAP so I will have to go back into the office to get her to check one off.

Have you guys done your CPR class? I am doing one on Saturday at a place near MC - she said a lot of MC nursing stdents were registered to take it then, too.
