Montgomery College, Fall 2011, 1st semester students

Here is our new thread ladies (Nikki, Andrea, Kristian, Marissa...and whoever else will be starting at MC this fall).

I really like that pair! I got mine from ebay. Thought lace-up would provide more support. I got the "Sunlite":

I think I'm going to leave the form as it is until someone convinces me otherwise. I asked about not having all vaccs completed. As long as we get the series started we're good to go. Wow, $100 is great! It cost me over $300 so far.

I agree, can't wait to get the packet in and get through registration.

As for the Hep B series, I was told 2nd is given a month after, and 3rd is given 6 months from the 1st. After the 3rd, get a titer and if it's low or neg. we repeat the series- bringing that to a total is 6. If titer is still low or neg than we would be considered as non-responders.

Having been in and out of doc offices/hospitals the past couple of weeks, I've noticed that, by far, the black stethoscope is most popular. Seems everyone has had a Littman. Funny how I now pay attention to that sort of thing.

What is line 43? I will have to look I guess. I am going to try to get down there tomorrow to drop everything off. I didn't want to go today and risk getting caught up in traffic and heavy rain.

I'm still waiting on one of my textbooks. I've emailed the seller a few times asking if it came with a cd and she never responds. It was sent media mail so it takes longer. If I don't get it by the target delivery date I will have to file a complaint. I think I'm just waiting on that (Health Assessments) and my medical dictionary.

Ok, just looked at line 43. My doc didn't sign it but she wrote a note that I was to finish the Rx I was given for the lesion in my nose.

I'm going to pick up my form from my doctor today. I've made copies of everything else and it's all in a folder, ready to go. I've gotten all our books and they...are...heavy!!! Every single one of them! We'll be doing ALOT of reading I'm figuring. I wasn't told anything about my CBC or UA so I hope that means everything was ok with them. I should know for sure by this evening after I pick everything up. I'll most likely drop everything off tomorrow morning as well; that way I can enjoy the weekend knowing everything's been successfully completed :)

Kristian, I wonder if we need to show that we've made appts. for our next MMR & Hep B? Maybe I should have my doctor write something that I have made an appt. to get both done in a month?

Hey girls!

Nikki, any time I watch a tv show like Nurse Jackie, I always pay attention to the scopes lol! All I see are Littmans. BTW, that show is awesome, very talented actors and writers.

Andrea, did you have your doc write up the plan for the series. The PA made a note about it on mine, but it's probably not necessary. We 'll have to turn in that info later anyway. I plan to turn my stuff in tomorrow. Has anyone confirmed whether or not we'll have access to the building?

Littmans are definitely top shelf when it comes to scopes. I don't think I want a common color like black though. Too easy to "walk off". Either way, I definitely want to get it personalized. I hope we have some freedom with the color of tubing. Is there a list of equipment? I haven't seen one. I know we need bandage scissors and a penlight but is there more? I wonder if the uniform place will be taking orders on registration day and if so, are we to bring cash or check or card? I guess bringing all three wouldn't hurt.

Kristian, I didn't have my doc write up a plan for the series. I'm hoping she'll do it herself since she seems to be so thorough on everything else. But if not and if she's not busy with a patient when I get there, I'll ask her. Otherwise, I hope that just by seeing I began with the series will be sufficient.

I think Nikki said something earlier about how we will have access to the building over the weekend. I'll have to check previous posts...

Here's Nikki's post:

"I called the admin in nursing and was given a number to call about Sat hours. I was told the building is open from 7:30a-5pm and there is a guard at the front. If I sign in I should be able to get through and drop off the packet in the metal box outside their office, room 327."

I asked about any restrictions/color requirements for scopes-none. The list of what we need is on the back of the uniform info sheet (I think). I haven't seen any additional tools/equipment required. The uniform vendor should take orders @ registration. We're required to wear a certain style/brand-White Swan? We should be able to test out scopes too.

Thanks for pasting Nikki's post, I'd misread it.

I remember Dianna saying that the vendor for uniforms runs expensive when it comes to scopes/equipment. I wish they would have given us the brand and style number of the scrubs so I could shop around and then see if the vendor is a good deal or not. I know they will sew on the MC patch for free though. I recall her saying that.

I just hope they gave me the correct info regarding the building's Saturday hours. I'd hate to drive all the way down there and then find out they are closed. I guess we are all going there tomorrow then, LOL.

Oh, regarding the future vaccines in a series...I believe the paperwork somewhere states that you have to document a plan to complete the series. I think I just wrote the day of my next appt.

Today is my last day on the Rx. Think it is ok if I write something on the health form that says I am clear and medication was completed on 7/8/11 (this is on line 43)???

Someone here recommended this site and these nurse kits seem pretty reasonable considering the cost of the Littmann is $70-$80 by itself. I will likely just get the first kit since the required equipment list doesn't say we need a BP cuff. Lots of colors to choose from.
