Here is our new thread ladies (Nikki, Andrea, Kristian, Marissa...and whoever else will be starting at MC this fall).
Hey ladies! Sorry I've been MIA lately! It's summer and my son is BORED to death in the house so everyday I'm trying to find fun things for us to do! I haven't read all the most recent posts but I'll try to get to that later tonight after Dominic is in bed :)
I got my MMR vaccine and Hep B vaccine today (my rubella titer and Hep B titer both came up negative). You were right Kristian; that MMR vaccine STUNG!!! To answer your inquiry Kristian and Nikki, I believe if we get a negative titer for anything that is a series (MMR or Hep B), we are to begin the series. After we've done the series, we get another titer.
For the MMR, we have to get 2 vaccinations 4 weeks apart (so I have an appt to get another one a month from today). Then we get another titer and if immunity for any of the three diseases (measles, mumps, or rubella) comes up low, we have to repeat the series again.
For Hep B, I'm a little confused. It says it's a 3-injection series on the yellow paper, but then it also says "If the titer shows non-immunity, the student needs to restart the series. After a total of 6 immunizations for Hepatitis B, if the titer is still low, the student is classified as a "non-responder"." So I'm not sure if we need 3 immunizations or 6 but I asked my doctor today and she said they should also be 4 weeks apart (so I made a follow-up appt for that also).
Now I just need my doctor to finish filling out everything. All my lab work is in and I'm vaccinated for everything I need to be vaccinated for; my CPR class is done; and I got the rest of my books in the mail today. Really hoping I can turn everything in by tomorrow or Monday.
OMG Nikki I'm so sorry that you had to go through all that with your son! I went through a similar situation with my son this past winter. He had the flu and his fever was hovering around 105 for a week! I went to the ER at Holy Cross where they ran every test known to man but they said it was just a virus. When I went to our pediatrician for a follow-up a couple days later, he ran a couple flu tests and found out it was Influenza Type B. Why in the world the hospital never ran one, I will never know. But I was sooo angry cuz we spent a good 5 hours in the hospital and got virtually no answers. I'm glad to hear your son is feeling a little better though.
Hi Rosh! I'm Andrea...welcome to the thread! I have my registration on the 28th as well. So nervous about what number I'm gonna get...
Where are you taking your CPR class? Is it on Lorain Ave in Silver Spring? If so, that's where I took it. The class was great and there were A TON of MC, HCC, and AACC nursing students there. I got certified the Saturday after orientation.
I haven't got any equipment yet either. Waiting to see what they have to say about it during registration. The only things I may get before then are my shoes and a watch. Have any of you heard of TOMS shoes? In addition to being extremely comfortable, they're eco-friendly and for every pair you buy they donate a pair of shoes to a child in need. Gonna see if they sell them anywhere near here...

I don't like their appearance as much as the Nurse Mates I showed you guys earlier, but the ratings are unbelievable...AND they're for a good cause. They sell them at Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus and a couple other retailers in the DC area. I may have to go at least try them on.
Hey Andrea! Summer time can definitely become boring for kids.
I finally got the Hep. B titer back today- no immunity, got the first shot. Sometimes, they seem very unorganized there, but I do appreciate how helpful they've been through everything. I hope I don't have to go back cuz of line # 43...
Yeah, I've heard of Toms...their espadrilles are cute. Canvas can be hard to keep clean, but they should be washable. I opted for leather-got the Propet shoes.
Oh yea...the Propet shoes look really comfy too! Did you get them from The Walking Company?
Well, since Line #43 doesn't specifically ask for a signature, I think you should be okay. UMD has been extremely helpful in all of this; especially for me, since I got half of the things done at UMD and the other half done with my healthcare provider, so I've had alot of back and forth but luckily I've only spent about $100 out of pocket for medical stuff so far and my insurance should cover the rest (fingers crossed).
I'm assuming that since we won't be able to get our second doses of the vax's that it should be sufficient that we've at least begun the series again. I think I remember her saying that at orientation. All of this has been so confusing and I can't wait til everything's turned in and registration is over!
Here we go with this again! But I think I like these. Are these what you got Kristian? (In white of course)

Thanks girls. Ok, will turn in all labs.
Nikki, the nurse was probably thinking WTH is this women talking about?! lol! That's too funny!
Definitely good to know, especially since that's what you're looking for.
Rosh, I hope your WBC turns out to be fine. It may be just a minor infection. Can't you call the office and get authorization to check it?...just a thought.
Yeah, we all had our CPR class a couple of wks ago.
