Montgomery College, Fall 2011, 1st semester students

Published

Here is our new thread ladies (Nikki, Andrea, Kristian, Marissa...and whoever else will be starting at MC this fall).

Glad the BLS class is done! I really did like our instructors. I was surprised there were only 4 students in our class. One more thing crossed off out list Nikki!

Andrea- they told you only 3-4 days for results? I was told it could take up to 2wks.

Nikki-have you thought about making an appt w/ the health center to hold a spot just in case?

Have fun at your class tomorrow, Andrea!

Yes, I was adament about asking how long the results would take. She said 3-4 days, sometimes a little longer, sometimes a little sooner but that was the average. I told her everything was due for MC by July 15th and that's why I was double-checking. But she said they've been getting a lot of calls from MC nursing students. I think I'm going to call every day or every other day to see if anything opens up before then. But honestly, the only days I could go before my already scheduled appt. would be Monday or next Friday. This Tuesday my family and I are going to Williamsburg, VA for a few days. Anyway, if I get struck with a case of bad luck and the results aren't in on time, I will e-mail Dianna Matthews and see if it would just be okay to give her a receipt of everything she at least knows it's all been done. Hopefully it won't come to that though.

Have either of you ordered any textbooks yet? I have everything saved in my Amazon cart but I'm still a little confused about the Fundamentals of Nursing textbook. I saw the two dfferent ISBNs from the school book store list. Do you think it matters which one we get?

Yeah, let's hope for a smooth process. Have fun in Williamsburg! I was just thinking about how long it's been since I was there.

I got two textbooks: Clinical Therapy... and Fund. of Nursing. I also saw there are 2 ISBN's. I got the one associated w/ NU105. I think this is another question for Prof. Matthews.

There have to be other places other than UMD to get everything done. So I am sure if I can't get it done at the doc office or through labcorp then they will give me other options. I would think Shady Grove could do it. Granted, maybe other places won't know the requirements as well as UMD but if a problem arises I will discuss it with Dianne.

I got two textbooks so far...Fundamentals of Nursing and Health Assessments of Nursing Practice. I too noticed the two different ISBNs but I went with the one that stated it was updated or revised or corrected. I can't remember which it said.

Kristian - those three people on the right side of me were driving me bonkers. They kept talking and cracking jokes, etc. I think the one gal said they were optmologists and so the course probably was more familiar to them but for those of us who were new, I thought it was very disrespectful and was tempted to say something to them because it was hard for me to focus on the instructor.

Marissa has been MIA since orientation. I hope everything is ok with her and her family.

Just found this. You can request titers yourself from this site and take the order to Labcorp. Not that we need to do that but the fact that they state "LabCorp" eases my mind.

I was able to make an appointment for LabCorp from a link off that site.

Kristian - how is your hand? I don't know what those dummies are made out of and I've never been sensitive to latex before but my palm is kind of itchy. Not to mention it feels bruised and my wrist hurts. It took me several hours to put the pieces together. Maybe something they sanitize them with? Clorox????

I had no idea they're were being rude...they should know better. Really, were we back in high school?! My hands are fine. I wonder if it was the cleaning product. You also used the blue one, right? Is the itching getting worse? Tried topical cortisone?

I'm getting concerned that things are not looking good on Marissa's side...

I was just thinking about Marissa. I hope everything is ok with her and her family...

I'll drop in and let you know about my class tomorrow when it's over. I hope I don't get rude classmates or irritated hands! Lol :)

Kristian - maybe since you were farther away they weren't a disturbance to you. I was kind of hoping the instructor would have said something cause she did look at them a few times. No big deal. I passed and am now certified! ;-)

As for my hands, I bet it was the clorox. I heard the assistant say they used Clorox to sanitize them. It isn't as itchy, more irritated. And very bruised feeling.

Andrea - good luck today. You are already there so hopefully it went well.

I wish Tina would come back to visit us on here. Maybe Marissa is just busy with getting things done for school and taking care of her sister. Hopefully nothing too serious.
