Montgomery College, Fall 2011, 1st semester students

Published

Here is our new thread ladies (Nikki, Andrea, Kristian, Marissa...and whoever else will be starting at MC this fall).

I don't know about the Tdap but Prof. Matthews did say you can write "plan to get in Oct" for your flu shot. I didn't get a flu shot last year. Probably the first time since having kids that I skipped it.

I bet you are happy that is over with. Did they end up checking your anal area like you feared? I have a feeling they probably went through the physicall rather quickly. What about the vision and hearing portion? How much did it all end up costing there and did they seem to be familiar with MCs requirements?

LOL! No examination in that area.

Forgot to mention cost, duh. Physical was $50, plus $150 for all the titers, CBC, PPD, Tdap, and urinalysis. The eye test is similar to how we're tested at the MVA. I didn't get a hearing test. They don't have a method of doing that there. She left to ask someone about it, came back then we got sidetracked w/ other things on the list. I have to remind myself to ask next week. The NP I had (Penny) only sees a few MC students each year, but she said many MC students come into the facility.

I thought they would know exactly what we need considering they are recommended to us. At least she read over everything and looks like everything was filled out correctly.

Where is it located? Baltimore?

So what all else did they do for the physical? I see they have nose on the list. What do they do? Look up your nose? And what about the endocrine system? I saw that on the list. Do they run a bunch of blood work for that? Some of the things on the list just seemed odd. Personally I think the info they want is private. I could understand if they needed to know if we are diabetic, have high blood pressure, a heart murmur, are epileptic, have something contagious or whatever. But asking if our orifice is abnormal???? Come on.

LOL!!

Look up your nose, look in ears, mouth, tonsils (if not removed), neurological test like moving the tongue, follow finger w/ eyes, ck/feel scalp/head, ck lymph nodes, ck reflexes, bp/heartrate, heart and lung sounds, ck spine, palpitation of GI tract, ask to do a bunch of diff arm, leg movements and walking on toes and heels...The CBC should run all the general tests for diff. systems.

Oh, it's located in College Park on Campus Drive.

Thanks for the info. I really hope I can get all my stuff done in one day...physical, titers, vaccines. I doubt my physician will do the titers/vaccines but I am hoping he will fill out a form for Labcorp so I can go get that stuff done right afterwards...getting it done in one day. I will be more relaxed after all that is done since I will have done everything else at that point.

I'm glad our CPR class is only 4 hours. However, it begs the question...what is the Red Cross class teaching that makes it 2 hours longer than the AHA class? Are we missing something important?

Anyway, see you tomorrow morning!

Nikki, have you done any reading/preview for BLS class?

No. Did you? Were we supposed to? I haven't heard anything about it.

No, I was just curious. I wanted to get a better idea of the class, but I'm too tired to do anything else today. It's been a long, stressful wk and I feel like I'm ready for bed.

See you in the morning!

Are you gals in your CPR class today? Mine is tomorrow morning, bright and early at 8am!

So UMD Health Center is REALLY booking up fast! I called today and the earliest I can be seen is July 5th! Luckily, my Primary Care Physician will see me this coming Monday for my Physical, UA, CBC, Vision, and Hearing tests. I'll be getting all my titers, Tdap, PPD, and flu shot at UMD on Tuesday July 5th at 2:00. I hate to cut it that close, but that was the earliest available. I should have called sooner :( But I confirmed with 2 different people that results should only take 3-4 days so hopefully I still can get everything in on time!

From what I remember hearing, Dianna Matthews said you could wait to have the flu shot done in October IF you had a flu shot last year. But I could be wrong. Best thing to do would be to e-mail her about it.

Hope you're enjoying the class! Let me know how it goes :)

Class was 4 hours long and I am so thankful it wasn't 6 hours. Kristian and I both got certified. Woohoo!

I hope I don't need to go to UMD for titers, etc. I'd call my doc to ask him about all that but they only work 1/2 days on Friday. Must be nice!
