Montgomery College, Fall 2011, 1st semester students

Published

Here is our new thread ladies (Nikki, Andrea, Kristian, Marissa...and whoever else will be starting at MC this fall).

Maybe I will do the mornings TH/F at SG as my backup. That way I can take the other class on campus on W. I have to look at the schedules and again and write it down on paper. I think better that way. I think I am going to shoot for at least 1.5 hours ahead. I will just read, eat lunch, and play games on my phone.

They said we'd pick the time for NU105 first, then our clinical time/day/site, then day/tome for NU121. What time do you want to take NU 105? I'm going for a time that would fit the other two on Monday.

If I don't do everything on Monday then I'd be leaning toward the 10am NU105 course.

I'm also tempted to go cheap with the stethoscope kit. That way if it gets lost or stolen I am not out a pretty penny. Dianne said not to spend a lot cause we didn't really need anything fancy. Just noticed that a blood pressure cuff isn't in the requirements for equipment.

That's a good point. It would really suck to have it go missing. I saw the Littmann Classic II going for about $60 on ebay. That's an excellent price...shoot I deleted it from my watch list. I think it was free ship. I was trying to ask about the scope, if we have flexibility in color. Also, Fund. of Nursing, is that the same book for all three courses? I saw a diff. ISBN for that book for NU110 on the school website.

I know we use that textbook for at least two of the classes.

I was browsing on allhearts.com and found a kit with stetho, scissors and light pen and then I added the forceps. It was only like $32 all together before shipping.

OK, I looked at the schedule and wrote my options down. But it looks like the only options to go all day on Mondays are:

8am - 10:50am NU121

1pm - 1:50pm NU105

4pm - 7:50pm NU110

OR

8am - 11:50am NU110

1pm - 1:50pm NU105

3pm - 5:50pm NU121

So the latter one would be the better option if you don't want to be on campus all day. I just worry about studying for exams and having more than one on the same day. So in that case, maybe the first option would be better to have study time in between classes????

Otherwise, I was viewing the following for myself:

Mondays

10-10:50 NU105

12-3:50 NU110

Tuesdays

3pm - 8:10pm clinical

Wednesdays

3pm - 8:10pm clinical

Fridays

10am - 12:50pm NU121

(I'm conflicted on this. I wanted a classes later in the morning to avoid rush hour but this means I will have Thurs off and I'd rather have a 3 day weekend so I might do the Thurs class instead at 9am).

I def. like the second all-day option better. It would free up more time in the week to get other things done- studying, errands, work, etc. I was thinking the same for Mon, Tue, Wed schd. but still deciding on Thu or Fri for NU121.

Well, I guess we are in the same boat ;-) If there is an all day clinical on Tues then you could have a 5 day "weekend". That might be nice but I'm just not too keen having to be somewhere at 7am or a 10 hr shift to start out with. Let me know if you come to a decision. I will likely talk it out with DH.

Oh yeah, I viewed the kits. My only concern about a basic scope is not being able to hear the diff. sounds

Wow you girls are way ahead of me in planning! Lol :) I just spent all day with my husband's 84-year old grandmother and his mom...taking them to Dr's appts, grocery shopping, errand-running, etc. so I'm BEAT!! I just wanna go lay on a float in my neighbor's pool for the rest of the day!

I definitely want to go to UMD for all of my medical stuff but I'm going to call my insurance to double check what they cover. I know they cover an annual physical, which I'm due for; but I don't think they cover any titers and probably not the majority of the vaccinations except for the influenza one since they're all "childhood immunizations". But UMD has really reasonable prices, so I think I should be okay...as long as all my titers are positive!

I do my CPR class this Saturday, so I'm pretty excited to have at least one thing crossed off my list. My physical with my primary care physician is scheduled for this Monday but I may cancel that and just do everything at UMD, IF they accept my insurance there. If so, I'll make an appt. for late next week...AFTER we come back from our Williamsburg mini-vacation! Lol :)

Hey! I think we are anxious about getting all this done! Wow, it's been a busy day for you.

Nikki- I"m going to set 3 diff. options and will let you know my decision. Of course, all this planning could go out the door if I'm at the end of the list.
