There doesn't seem to be anyone else on AN who is applying to MSON for the fall term but I'll update just in case anyone else is searching (fruitlessly) for some info. I took the Kaplan Admissions Test/Entrance Exam/KAT Test on Friday so I'm just going to share some info and advice that will hopefully be helpful to whoever comes across it, not just those applying to Montefiore. If you are applying to Montefiore School of Nursing it works like this:
1. You send in all of your application materials along with a $40 money order. You will receive a checklist of any missing application materials about a week later if there is anything missing from your file.
2.If you meet the requirements they send you an invitation to take the KAT test. The invitation I got was by email, they may have sent something by mail but I haven't checked. The invitation comes with a list of dates and times of which you will pick three ordered from your first to third choice. They will confirm with you which date and time you are scheduled for. I got my first choice which was Friday April 24th.
3.In the invitation email you will have received attachments with the suggested study guide, which is Kaplan's guide for Nursing School Entrance Exams. I did not purchase it and it seems that a majority of those who did found it to be useless. See below for info on the test which I got a composite score of 85 on. The school will begin sending out decision letters on May 11th.
The test consisted of 91 questions total for a total of 165 minutes.
There are 4 sections:
Reading-22 questions/45 minutes
Math-21 questions/45 minutes
Writing-21 questions/45 minutes
Science-20 questions/30 minutes
I took my test on a computer using sign in info provided by the proctor. There is a calculator button that you can press if you need a calc. You can go back to previous questions within a section but not back to previous sections. I was the first to finsih, I'd say it took me about an hour to finish and I got my results immediately and will be receiving a copy in the mail.
I only studied for the science section because it's agreed that it's the most difficult. I studied using Khan Academy because it consisted only of A&P questions. I studied every system that my invitation letter said would be included. That did NOT help. I honestly don't think that there is any real way to study for most of the questions that are on this test's science question apart from those on the cardiovascular system. I got 90s in every section except for the science section, go figure, I got a 60 there. Dismal, I know. I honestly cannot offer any advice as to how to study for this part of the exam because of the nature of the questions.
0Hello Everybody,
Congrats to all you guys who've got accepted. For those who didn't please don't be disappointed because sometimes things fall out of place for better opportunities. However, I haven't got an email but I am not sure whether or not I got in because I have chemistry, which is outstanding and I am waiting on my grades.I would be super elated if I get accepted but if not I have other choices. I am just patiently waiting and hopefully you guys will get your acceptance packages soon.
If you have all your pre-requisites then you should try Cochran School of Nursing (St.John Riverside Hospital). Located @ 967 N Broadway, Yonkers, NY.Their deadline is at the end of the month.Their test is free and it's given every Wednesday.I think the last test is the 28th of this month. Also,College of New Rochelle extended their deadline until June 1st but they need the Teas instead of KAT. I hope I was helpful.
Finally got acceptance package!! Super excited to start in the fall. I have two pretty silly questions if anyone can answer them. Obviously for clinicals we wear the scrubs but do we have to wear them regularly during the week? Also the package says everything has to be embroidered but it does not say exactly what should be embroidered. I'm assuming MSON, but not sure if anything else should be on there.

I can't wait to pick mine up. My mailing address is different than my home address so I won't pick it up until Wednesday.
