U.S.A. New York

Hi, I want to know if there's any of you here who is currently a student or has been a student of Montefiore school of nursing (used to be Dorothea Hopfer school of nursing) in Mt. Vernon?? Can you tell me about the school's nursing program or maybe your personal experience in the program? And I live in queens, is the traveling going to be an issue 'coz I'm just taking the subway/metro north to get there.. do u happen to know if there are students from queens that goes to this school? Any response will be highly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi, I am currently in nursing 3 in the school. I don't commute from far so I am not too sure how that would be but many classmates live in queens and don't seem to complain about the commute. As for the school, I LOVE it. I am in the evening program and the schedule is Tues(6pm-10pm) & Weds(4pm-8pm or 6pm-10pm) with clinicals on saturdays (7am-4pm). The Prof. are all active nurses & are AMAZING! They are there for you 100%. You will catch them even after office hours helping the students. ************ is the person I would call if you want more information. She's the sweetest & she knows the students by name. Open houses are available now so you can check it out. Nursing school is very demanding but it's doable. I am happy in the school and I am sure you would to. Good Luck.

U should call n c if u can pick up your invite to take the TEAS. So u can start preparing n studying. They'll mail it anyway if you're eligible (meets all the requirements) but she gave me the invite herself when I dropped off the required reference letter. Good luck to us!

Thanks. I actually already took the TEAS in February (took it at another school), had my results sent to them after I got them. We'll see how this goes...good luck with the TEAS!

I used the official ATI manual, Basic Math Review for Nurses, TEAS Secrets, and the McGraw-Hill 5 Practice TEAS Tests book. I suggest you read the official manual completely, do all the practice questions, and do the two practice tests in the back of the book, at the very least. It covers most of the topics you'll see on the test, and you'll be familiar with the format of the test questions.

If you're weak on math (for me, I've been out of high school for years, and forgot how to do basic things like multiply and divide decimals), then the Basic Math Review for Nurses will be VERY helpful.

TEAS Secrets is short and I read it twice, including the day before the test. It gives short summaries of most of the things you need to know for the test, and practice questions.

The McGraw-Hill Practice Tests is also great, but it covers things that you won't see on the test, since it covers all versions of the TEAS besides the TEAS V (which is the one most schools that require the TEAS tell you to take). I thought it was harder than the actual TEAS, but that may be because of the questions that covered material that isn't on the TEAS V. I did all 5 practice tests, and went over the solutions of questions I got wrong.

Not sure how much time you have, but I pretty much focused on this for 2 weeks. I completed the official ATI book first (though while I studied the math section I also studied the Basic Math Review for Nurses book), did the two practice tests in the back of the book, read the TEAS Secrets (and did all practice questions), and I did 2 McGraw-Hill tests a day (so 2 one day, 2 another, and 1 maybe 2 days before the test). The day before the test, I reread TEAS Secrets, and looks over any practice questions/concepts that I maybe had difficulty with.

On the actual test day, I saw one girl brought a copy of TEAS Secrets to the test (we spent like an hour checking in and waiting around, so I guess you could glance through it while waiting, that's actually what they tell you to do in the beginning of the book).

SO, at the very least, you must get the official ATI TEAS manual, and do all the practice questions and the two practice tests in the back of the book. If you have more time, the other resources I used should be helpful as well.

Thank you so much for your response. I already mailed my application last month for the day classes, but I recently changed it to evening classes 'coz I think it will be more convenient for me since I am working full time. I checked the school's curriculum and I noticed that I already have most of the pre-reqs except for nutrition. I really hope they will credit some of them just to lessen the workload. I know they're looking at the course description and I'm not sure if the school's course description is the same as mines hmm I need to check.
