I recently got accepted to Monroe College for the fall 2020 nursing program, I haven’t seen recent reviews about the school and I want to make sure I’m making the right decision. Has anyone attended the school, or graduated?
Im not looking to put all my eggs into one basket so I’m still applying for other schools as well.
Thank you :)
also with the schedule, I know of 2 people in my cohort that altered their schedule because they had "extenuating work circumstances"...so I was just saying this is definitely not allowed at any other program. also, you absolutely cannot change your clinical site at another school, but at Monroe people were literally asking to be switched to different groups bc "they lived too far" and they were allowed to switch, and it wasn't a few people it was almost half the cohort. I was just saying these are examples of Monroe "being lenient" --not that this is a good thing--and that normal programs would never allow these things
That’s very funny because with my cohort they didn’t allow us to change our schedule nor change groups.. they gave what they gave us and if anyone in my cohort couldn’t do it for whatever reason, it was our own problem. So this “leniency” wasn’t something I experienced but I’m happy they changed it.
I already brought my RN NCLEX Sanders book and I will be studying with UWorld also during my RN semesters starting in the fall. I know what I went through with Monroe and I know what to expect. I wanted to apply to another nursing school but unfortunately I was over the deadline.
Hi, it is doable..but it’s a lot of work. Managing your time with work, classes, clinicals, studying and assignments is going to be very important. I did my pre reqs at a CUNY before applying so it did make it better for me not to take those classes with the nursing courses. Classes for the LPN, my experience were M, T, W. One morning class, and the rest were afternoon classes.
You’re welcome.
Congratulations on your acceptance. I will say, something’s have changed since being in the LPN program compared to now that I’m in the RN program. Some professors are no longer there and the school seems to be running a bit better.
It’s not prefect it never will be, but I just advise to study study study, lean on your cohort for support to study, discuss class work, questions and everything else. Look at the syllabus everyday, be ready to read and teach yourself certain things, do the ATIs, take notes and study the PowerPoints after class.
It’s going to be stressful but take time to breathe and manage your time. Make the best of it as much as you can.
I wish you the best of luck and let me know if you have any other questions.
@Joyonelittle OMG congratulations!! I bet you are feeling sooo relieved!
I just got accepted to Monroe for the LPN-RN program. Is there anything you would recommend or not recommend as far as classes, professors etc.?
Also is it true we will be in class Monday-Friday 8-5. that's gonna be sooo hard! gonna have to do nights at work!

I 100% agree with you! I know someone that just graduated 6/15 from the ABSN and she was like "just fyi you will need to study all over again bc we learned nothing from Monroe". and I know bc I have personal experience with another nursing school and Monroe is def leaving things off. trust me I know bc my cohort is having that issue now with maternity, we have to teach ourselves and "read" chapters with no background or any other information. maternity is a new world with new lingo and having to teach yourself is insane...for example, we did not go over APGAR in class...were told to read about it in the book.
its also funny how Monroe doesn't boast about their BSN NCLEX rates..but imo their rates will go down because they are def not teaching properly in the ABSN.
in regards to the schedule, it is a double-edged sword because like I was saying Monroe is very lenient on certain things you would NEVER ever get away with at other programs. however, that comes with a price...bc the "days off" should be clinical days. and for example, I have friends in other programs that get validated on skills (which is a known thing in most nursing schools)...I have been validated on a head to toe assessment that's it. not IVs, caths, trach cleaning, and insertion, there are so many things missing, and it's scary.
@Joyonelittle I was recommended to start studying UWorld in august to get a head start bc I finish end of the year, whats your opinion on this? thank you!
