Luzerne County Community College RN Program
Hi! I'm sooo happy I found your post. I literally have also searched everywhere on the web and I cannot find much info on the nursing program at Luzerne. I am applying for the Fall 2027 cohort. With your grades and the TEAS score I think you are a very strong applicant. I went in person to speak to someone and they were not very direct and kept it very vague as far as waitlists and seats. Have you heard back from them? Any updates? We should keep this thread going for Luzerne CC or better yet, I might start a private FB group for nursing students and prospective nursing students alike.

@Joyonelittle Reading some comments on here how there is no skills validation besides head to toe is really concerning. In the LPN program at a community college we even got a skills exam on foley, bp, head to toe and wound care..... is this true? because I don't want to waste my time or money on a school that's not gonna help me become a more competent nurse. ?

CUNY-Hostos Spring 2021
@Keemz I wouldn't worry too much. You did really well with your GPA! Which I believe is what they prioritize! I graduated in June and I'm already working. Word of advice is to do nursing questions!! read all the rationales and don't fall behind. ALSO, get simplenursing as soon as you can or even before you start! get your subscription it was a LIFE SAVER! For myself and literally all of my class! Stay positive, stay on top of your game and believe in yourself! GOOD LUCK!!

CUNY-Hostos Spring 2021
@Rose_P Sorry for the late reply, I just saw this message. I graduated in June and I am already working. The program was a bit disorganized here and there but what nursing program isn't! What matters is that the professors were all so supportive and helpful!!

@LeauVixen HEY! How was your first semester in the program? Hope it went really well! ..So I got “conditionally” accepted to the LPN program. ? I have orientation and the med-calculation exam next week. I’ve written a few emails asking what I need to study and/or if I need to know any medications and no one is responding. I called the nursing department and the lady told me she couldn’t answer that. Smh! Can you help me out on what to study? Math is my weakness! Especially algebra so I'm freaking out as I need the 80% minimum. I know you mentioned that no calculators are allowed. I'm assuming it's dosage calculation and conversions like grams to liters, and etc? Finding out how many pills to give based on the label they give? Dimensional analysis? Do we get medication labels? Or drug knowledge questions? I'd appreciate any insight/advice. TIA!

CUNY-Hostos Spring 2021
Thank you so much!! I just met with an advisor and enrolled in the only class I have left, Psy110. Going to start studying for the TEAS again and reviewing my pharmacology notes and questions. Thank you so much, I am going to do that. Best of luck to you.

Hostos Community College Spring 2021
Is that dosage calculation given every semester before advancing into the next nursing class? That's how BCC has there's. They call it the progression exam and every nursing student has to take it before the end of the semester to be able to go into the next class, even if you pass the class. 80% pass or better is also required.

CUNY-Hostos Spring 2021
Thank you so much for your reply. I appreciate all the information. I have a 3.8 GPA and I took the TEAS over a year ago and got a 75 so I should be able to get in the program. Although I'm thinking of going into the LPN and than doing the LPN to RN bridge. I wasn't aware that there is a dosage and calculations exam you need to take. Is there a dosage and Calc pre-requisite? I took one at BCC but it doesn't transfer over. Yes, I've emailed the nursing department a few times but haven't gotten all my questions answered. Good luck on your exam!

Hey LeauVixen, I'm currently attending Hostos, just transferred from BCC's nursing program, which was horrible experience to say the least. I'm applying for the Fall 2021 semester. I only have one pre-req left to take. I'm wondering what your experience has been with Hostos, the nursing department in particular? Are you going in straight for the RN or the LPN program? What score did you have on your TEAS and do you know the cut-off? What feedback have you heard from other students? I'd really appreciate any feedback, tips or advice.!!
