Monitor Tech or CNA

Well this is my first post here even though I've been a reader for a long time. Well I'm in a quandary and I'm not sure what to do.

I'm currently a nursing student finishing off my prerequisites. I start nursing school fall 2012 so I have a little time before I really get into my schooling. I'm currently working as an CNA in a small local hospital. I work at nights and I really enjoy the work I do and I'm learning A LOT.

My supervisor called my the other day and wanted to know if I would be interested in a monitor tech position. She said she knew I was in nursing school and that the skills I would learn as a monitor tech would be very beneficial as a nurse and wondered if I would be interested.

Here's my problem. I love working nights and I love the patient contact I get as a CNA. But it kind of sucks being at the bottom of the totem pole all the time and the work can be really tiring some nights.

On the other hand working as a monitor tech is a slightly higher paying position and I would stay free of a lot of the drama sitting in a room all the time. Btw it is a day shift position (which is nice but I lose my shift diff pay). But sitting on my butt in front of a computer for 12 hours straight. I've never had a job like that before I'm not sure if I could handle that aspect.

Which way should I go? I got till next week to decide.

The monitor tech job sounds good. I'd love to do that just for experience with pt charts. Where I work, they set them up and put orders in and all that.

If anything, it would get you a different perspective and working day shift would probably be better for nursing school(no changing sleep patterns).

Also, the nurses will also be awfully close in case you have a question about school work. ;p
