Well after many years of getting thru RN school I finished May of 2011. I current work at a hospital in Pittsburgh (Allegheny General). Well after working full time and going thru school I have accumulated some debt (student loans, owing people money etc...) my credit also got a bit screwed up too. I know of this one (http://www.hrsa.gov/loanscholarships/repayment/nursing/) but the eligibility period is over. Does anyone know of any special loans for nurses (with bad credit) or anything out there to help me out. Im a guy, a new grad, 36 years old and have 2 kids. Thanks for any help

you mean, you're asking for money to pay off your old debts and want to know if there's a special place that loans to nurses like you?
in answer to your question: nope, i sure don't. good luck, though, and if you identify one, i am sure there are a lot of people reading this thread who are interested.:hrnsmlys:

I just graduated and I have a ton of debt too. My plan is to follow the "snowballing" idea- pick your most pressing debt (highest interest, or whatever) and aggressively pay that off while making minimum payments on all other debts. Once you pay that debt off, roll over your aggressive payment plan to the next most pressing debt, and so on. I have two kids too so I really feel your pain. It sucks!

I have seen loan repayment assistance as a perk in some larger hospitals.
Are you willing to relocate?
Good luck.

Try Consumer Credit Counseling Services. I think it's a federal/state org. They can help you to manage your debt and work with your creditors re: payments. There's a small fee (I think). They consolidate your loan/credit payments into one lump sum and you pay them; they take care of distributing the money to your creditors. I made some very bad financial decisions early in my nursing career, and they helped me out.
START PUTTING MONEY INTO YOUR RETIREMENT FUND NOW!!! Even if it's only 2%, start saving. Pay yourself first, then pay your debts. I cannot emphasize how critical this is. If your hosp. contributes to your retirement fund, invest at least the minimum amount you need for them to contribute. It's free money.
