Moms any advice?

Published

Hi everyone

I'm a mother of a 18 months old. my husband works for long hours & almost never around to help. He can just babysit my daughter when I go to school. Since I'm new to the country I don't have any families or friends to babysit my daughter and I can't afford paying for daycare. So the only time I can study is night time when she is sleeping (she's not a good sleeper so I can't really count on her day naps)

any advice for time scheduling or what courses should I take for my first semester?

Your features portray middle eastern! :) (I'm not Iranian) but it takes one middle eastern to know the other! :D

People always start speaking Spanish to me lol

You're definitely a middle eastern

I have three kids, the older two are in school and my youngest we have to put into daycare while I am at class. I did get two degrees online while he was a newborn and I had no family or friends to watch them as well as my husband being military and deploying for months on end. I love the online classes because they usually ask for little participation discussions and give you deadlines and assignment due dates and requirements at the beginning of the class so you can prioritize and pace yourself. if they offer it online, take it. Stay ahead of the work so even if your babe has an off night its no sweat you can still be prepared. Use your time while he is home wisely. Go to playdates or playgrounds and study while the baby plays and socializes. I always take my online tests at night while everyone is sleeping that way I know there are no interruptions. Utilize the time you have wisely and stay ahead and you can pull it off!

Yes! online courses were a breeze compared to lecture courses! Its doable if you manage your time correctly. I think OP is worried about time management. It only takes organization. My first semester I took 3 online courses, had a one year old baby and I was homeschooling my oldest. I'st doable if you organize. I did wake up at 4 am to get math lecture out of the way and finish homework :), did a lot of my reading in the backyard while they played! :)

Thank you guys

I will take intro to psychology online this semester.

Psych is a good one to take online, I think you'll like it. :) I've been able to do all my prereqs online so far except for the A&P sequence, and I love having the ability to work at my own pace. Online classes can be challenging for people who aren't good at managing their time or being resourceful, but if you're diligent and keep yourself accountable, you'll be just fine.

I use an app on my iPhone/iPad/MacBook called iStudiez Pro and it has been really helpful with keeping track of all my assignments and deadlines, especially in my online classes.

I took comp1 online (along with a handful of other classes) and comp 2 on campus (also along with a few others) I find online classes easier (except for math)

What I would recommend is that you take your best subjects online and save the harder ones, perhaps the English Comp, for the on-campus classes. When I went for my Associates, I had three children in diapers so I had to get creative. Math was not a good subject for me and I did poorly online with that class and learned my lesson. After that all of my math was done on campus.

I have two young kids, and I also work full time. This is my first semester, and I decided to only take two classes, and do my pre-reqs very slowly. I would rather take longer to complete them and make sure I get an A and actually understand the concepts (especially in the science classes). You can do this!

Thank you guys

I really appreciate your answers
