Does anyone know where this topic was addressed before?
It is hard to discuss anything in this home. I have picked up that I am to help entertain the patient, but that is all. I am getting very mixed messages.
I am also getting very bored!

I don't recall reading a thread like that anywhere.
Odd. So insurance is paying for you to do...nothing? That would drive me batty. (Short drive)
Have you spoke with your manager?

If you're not doing the skilled nursing tasks, could that be considered fraudulent?

Yeah, it was discussed later down another thread, but I'm sure many have a lot to say about this at any given time.
Keep documenting the care you do do. If mom does it all, say what she's done, to be clear who is doing the skilled care. But she needs to understand that if she doesn't let the skilled nurses do the skills, some insurance person reading note after note that all the nurses are doing is entertain the ct might decide skilled nursing isn't necessary and hours could be lost, or maybe downgraded to HHA hours. Probably won't happen for a while (or at all) but never hurts for her to realize this.

Is this your only case ATM? And yikes, that sounds ten shades of awful... Even during some of my slower cases, getting up to give a med or do SOMETHING broke the monotony!
Has the mom given any rationale as to her behavior?
If they want paid entertainment ONLY I'm sure we could have a clown sent to the house... ::ugh::

I've read other threads that spoke of similar things happening. Still... As a director of an agency, I would hope I would lay out clear expectations to the parent discouraging such behavior while trained, paid staff is on duty. Hmmm...

All good points. See my pm.
Now the clown comment was the most helpful. Humor is so therapeutic. Yes sitting and doing nada IS ten shades of awful... I WAS and do still hope to settle into a case!
Yup. Told her that.

I have a case now with tons of down time. I did a NOC shift at this house the other night. I called House Flippers and.. Wait no, I'm kidding. But I did clean their dang dirty kitchen seven ways to Sunday.
I reckon I probably burned a TON of calories. o.O

I have a case now with lots of down time. After the kid gets up & I give him his bath he goes & plays/hangs out with his family. I don't follow him so I just stay in his room & watch tv/study/read. They bring him to me if he has a dirty diaper or a cut/scrape. I give him his medications & treatments but he doesn't get them until the end of my shift. Long days!

I had a case where I raced to get there after church on Sunday (EVERY Sunday) only to find my patient bathed, dressed, all meds and nebs done, therapy done. I finally took myself off the caase as I was just sitting there, every now and then changing a diaper, while the family had their Sunday at home. Talk about a fifth wheel!
This ain't like any case with down time I have EVER had in two plus years of PDN.
