Mohawk RPN September 2014

World Canada CA Programs

Hi, has anyone else applied to the Fall 14 RPN program? I'm nervous and am hoping that I get an acceptance early on.

I had a friend who got a late acceptance near the end of July last year.

What are your marks?

What are your HOAE marks?

Do you have any education besides high school?

Have you applied to other schools? Which ones?

Assessment for success is in my opinion a waste of time, its purpose is to see if you need to do a communications course and if so take it in class (at fennell campus) or online. I received almost full marks and have a BSc and had to do the online course while others that took classes 10 years ago were exempt.

The Communication course isn't difficult however I found it to be a time sink and my average was 80% to give a comparison you have to do a different communication course (comm-0265 critical & innovative thinking, which has nothing to do with assessment for success) in semester 4 in which I achieved 96%. I have personal issues with how the semester 1 communications course was handled but I would just point out that it requires just a 50% to pass as its a non-nursing module and plays no role in your other courses.

I applied for September 2014 and got in. I applied as a high school student.

My average was an 89% for grade 12 courses.

I also applied to Humber, George Brown, Centennial, and Sheridan.

My HOAE scores were Academic Aptitude 46, Sciences 48, Reading Comprehension 29, spelling 36, and 67 for vocational adjustment.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!

What's vocational adjustment?

Vocational adjustment is a series of general questions that determine if nursing is a good career fit for you. Vocation = career/calling

Hi relaxingbath! Please, can you recall the essay topic? That would give me some idea what to think about. Thank you

I can't really remember but i think it was something along the lines of "think of an event in your life that you over came and how it changed you for the better".

Just a word of advice for you guys, I am currently in the Mohawk RPN program, for your pre-placement requirements, it is extremely important that you start getting them done before the semester starts ... especially if your vaccinations are not up to date. I made the mistake of not getting my vaccinations up to date and it has cost me to miss more than half of first semester's clinical placement. The other requirement that took a while for alot of people is the police check, depending on where you live it can take couple weeks up to a month.

Thank you "relaxingbath" very much. That helps me a lot.

"Ohmychonny" thanks for advise, it's very appreciated and also it's nice from you to guide us new students.

I got my acceptance a few weeks ago, don't know if it's pertinent anymore since I didn't bother to read anything but the first post, but my marks were mid 80's in high school, low 90's in college and I got 94.7% on my HOAE.

Yeah, don't worry about Mohawk's assessment, it's a joke - the HOAE was much harder.

Also, was anyone else at the open house this past saturday? Facilities look fun-tastic

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has heard anything regarding the various steps we need to take before starting the program, such as immunizations & police checks, etc. I've read that there is a lot to get done & it's best to do it as early as possible, but I haven't received any of that info yet. Please let me know if you have, thanks! :)

Hi laurk, I haven't received anything in the mail but if you go on the website under student services - there is a link for Pre-placement through ParaMed that has info and forms. The only thing I started so far was Vulnerable Sector Screening.

I went to Conestoga so I'm not sure what Mohawk requires, but if you have to get blood titres done to show immunity against certain diseases (MMR, varicella, etc.) I would start that as soon as possible as well. Sometimes even though you've been immunized your blood work will still show that you do not have immunity and you have to get your vaccines done again then wait and get more blood work. I know a few classmates who had this happen and it was a very lengthy experience!

Good luck :)
