Missouri State University CRNA

Nursing Students SRNA

Published

When I was looking for a CRNA school, I found this school, but realized that allnurses.com did not have much in this program. I wanted to start this forum to bring to light some things that I found out about the school.

Location: Springfield, MO

Program length: 36 months. Doctorate.

Interview: Suit up. You're welcome. Panel Interviews. All day affair. Really nice, but questions may seem a little intense. May have been my nerves talking here.

How quickly to hear back? Depends between 2 weeks to a couple of months depending on where you rank.

Any questions welcome. I got in and I am super excited for starting as this was my first choice.

Good luck to you all on your journey!

I have an interview January 10th as well. This is the only school I applied to and I have never been through the interview process. Is the interview more personal or clinical based? I know it won’t change the end result, but I would like to know what I’m walking into. Appreciate any input! Thanks.

Sorry, reviewed your first post and saw it was less clinical and more personal. Hopefully I won’t let my nerves get the best of me. I was wondering if many current students have families/children? I have two little girls I will be moving away from if I get in.

Hum... I don’t know about others, I have a son, but he is about to graduate school and start college. I have never interviewed at this school though. Yea that would be tough moving away from a family, but I’m certain you won’t be the only one. I am very excited about school. I am an older student, so hopefully that won’t hurt me. That is part of the reason why I did not take the GRE. What ICU and area are you from?

I’m sure there will be. Hoping to find some friends to connect with in the program to help with being away from family. I work in a 38 bed MICU/SICU with some CV surgery and Neuro surgery. We get a little bit of everything really.

The program is set up pretty good!! The summer when you start is tough. It is alot of information for a short amount of time. This program gives every student a mentor which is something different than other programs. Teachers are flexible and very caring. Cons, none of your clinicals will be in Springfield, so planning for your clinicals is kind of up in the air until 6 weeks prior to going to your chosen spot. No program is perfect as you will find out when you start either here or any other school. Just have to be willing to be very flexible.

Thanks for your input! I got that vibe from the faculty I had met. How do many handle clinicals a distance away? Do they get up and move everything? Is there an opportunity to work your first year in the program to help with cost or do you feel it wouldn’t be manageable? These are all questions I blanked on With students for interview day ?

Hey! Just got a email that I’m in the program. A little bummed I will have to find a place to stay each time I switch clinical sites that are spread out over the U.S. Director and School Staff seemed super nice though. May consider Kentucky since I applied there too. Don’t have much money for all that housing?

Aside from my other advice above, not really. Be yourself, be professional and just show them why you think you should be there. If you've been 3 times then show growth in what you've done since your last interview. They accept 24 total for Summer. Not sure how many they've accepted but so long as you at least get on the alternate list you have a chance after interviews of starting the program because not everyone who says yes ends up choosing MSU. Smile, relax, they just want to get to know if you're a great fit for the program.

Mercy, you were one of the SRNAs when I had my interview. I wish I could've asked you more questions that day...would love to pick your brain when you get time.

I'm a newbie, so can't send msgs yet. ?

When you guys say science GPA, do you mean the GPA over those 5 prerequisite courses that they want?

They are looking at all science courses from basic sciences to the ones they require for the program. However, you don’t need to be finished with the courses that are required. They just need to be done prior to the start of the program. Hope this helps!

Maybe it has changed because when I spoke to the coordinator they told me that the previous year they didn’t interview anyone below a 3.6 in those courses.
