Missouri State University CRNA

Nursing Students SRNA

Published

When I was looking for a CRNA school, I found this school, but realized that allnurses.com did not have much in this program. I wanted to start this forum to bring to light some things that I found out about the school.

Location: Springfield, MO

Program length: 36 months. Doctorate.

Interview: Suit up. You're welcome. Panel Interviews. All day affair. Really nice, but questions may seem a little intense. May have been my nerves talking here.

How quickly to hear back? Depends between 2 weeks to a couple of months depending on where you rank.

Any questions welcome. I got in and I am super excited for starting as this was my first choice.

Good luck to you all on your journey!

Hi,

nope nothing yet. No one else responded either so maybe it’s just us applying. We’re a shoe in if so. ? just called the coordinator and she said we should definitely hear something by the end of next week if not this week, so just a little more waiting?

I just received an email. I was not selected for an interview. I guess even if your application was well rounded if your science GPA was <3.6 they threw you out. Congratulations on your interview. On the flip side, I was granted an interview at Murray State/Baptist Health. I pray that you have a successful interview. Good luck and please keep me updated. I interview Jan 17-18.

They had early interviews this month and sent out acceptances already. But will still have another round of interviews in January. Good luck to everyone. This year's students were very competitive from what I heard. Early interviews most had 4.0 GPAs. Just things I heard from the grapevine. But dont lose hope!! Some people did not hear things until Maybe February or March if they were on the alternate list. Wish you all the best!!

Oh no! Maybe it was your ICU experience or did you have the CCRN? I have heard they give preference to those with the CCRN and lots of experience in the ICU. I hope you get into the other school and I’m glad you have another interview because I had an interview earlier at another school and I did not make it in so I am banking on this one. They said I did not interview well at UMKC so I am going to practice really hard so that I do not seem as nervous in this interview

I have 5 years ICU experience, and I have the CCRN and CSC. My science GPA is just average, hence I am currently enrolled in organic chemistry and a graduate level physiology class of which I both have A's in. I went to a very difficult undergrad nursing program and graduated Sigma Theta Tau. Im very involved on many hospital committee's and Im very active in many service organizations in the community. There is more to a person than a gpa or letter grade. I know MANY nurses that may have a 3.9-4.0 however they are a horrible bedside nurse and cannot critically think.

Misty, tell me more about your interview at UMKC, what went wrong? Can you reveal what questions they asked? Thanks in advance.

Well I did not take the GRE, but they just used my MCAT score which was 508. They asked a lot of clinical questions and my mind just went blank for a few seconds on most, but I eventually answered them. They ask about your ICU you work in. I knew a lot about our CRRT machines because I taught a class, but I had to take time to think about ballon pump placement and reasons for it deploying when it does. It also took me some time to explain the antagonists for medications like isoproterenol-very old drug. A friend said I should have just taken the GRE and that may have helped, but I took the MCAT three years ago and did not want to study for the GRE. I am a shy person though, so maybe I should have spoken up more. They asked very few personality questions.

Hum that all sounds good to me. Maybe it was your science GPA. Sometimes they frown on older students (Which is unfair) or nurses not at a level 1 hospital too.

Cajunnurse!

I'm in the same boat. I was denied an interview to Missouri State (silly science GPA) but invited for one at Murray State. I interview on the 18th! Congrats to you. I commented on another post regarding Murray State.

@cordsolsen can you direct me to the post on Murray. I have yet to find a thread on them. I'm sorry you didn't get an interview at Missouri State. Unfortunately I believe it was my science GPA as well.

Hi Mercy Mercy!I I am interviewing on January 10th. Do you know many were already accepted and how large the summer 2020 cohort is this year? Any tips on the interview process. This will be my third interview and I am ready to nail it! ?

Aside from my other advice above, not really. Be yourself, be professional and just show them why you think you should be there. If you've been 3 times then show growth in what you've done since your last interview. They accept 24 total for Summer. Not sure how many they've accepted but so long as you at least get on the alternate list you have a chance after interviews of starting the program because not everyone who says yes ends up choosing MSU. Smile, relax, they just want to get to know if you're a great fit for the program.
