what kind of hospital is Centerpoint Medical Center?

Hi all,

I'm a new grad. I saw that this hospital has New grad positions available there, and i just wondered what kind of place it is. I've driven by it a few times and seen that it's a new facility. However, I don't know much about the hospital culture. I'm interested in working in the PCU, and looking for any info available. I've been on the website and seen all the awards, I just wondered if there's any nurses working there, or that had worked there, that can give an opinion of it.

P.S. Any leads on new grad friendly hospitals in the KC area would be appreciated thanx!:D

I'm an LPN and I went to Penn Valley. Looking to pursue my career as an RN in another 2 years. I want to get some experience as an LPN 1st. What school did you go to? I did hear that Centerpoint was hiring!!

I went to school out of state. So, when I send out resume's I'm sure recruiters are like where is that :confused:

Well, they should be able to see from your resume that it was out of town (HELLO) :-) Have you tried St. Lukes Hospital or St. Joesph? Truman is pretty good too!! Hopefully someone will call you soon!!

Yes an RN position Definitely!! The economy is to bad right not to settle for Internships and you probably will not make much money (not sure)!! Have you tried some agency's around town? They are in need of RN's as well as LPN's!!

To the OP:

I would stay FAR away from Centerpoint, or any HCA hospital for that matter. I did my captstone at Centerpoint, and they are constantly understaffed. I am signed up with an agency who calls me EVERY week to try to get me to work at Centerpoint. I tell them no everytime. Their PCU is a step down unit and the ratio is 1:4, not to mention you may get new admissions or transfers. That is a high ratio for a step down unit, and the patients are really sick, you may have one on a vent, and a couple on drips, and one fresh op from the Cath lab. I work with a nurse who is signed up with an agency who outright refuses to work Centerpoint's PCU unit. I work with another nurse who started off at Centerpoint, took their bonus, and then quit because she felt her license was on the line. There is another nurse who is now looking to quit Centerpoint because she works the ICU and she gets THREE patients! And not to mention the layout for their ICU is not nurse friendly. How you can monitor your patient from down the hall is mind boggling to me.

On the other hand, Truman are hiring new grads. I suggest you try to apply there.

Thanx for the insight on nurse patient ratios. The facility i work at now is already chronically understaffed, and in my next position i want to make sure that doesn't happen again. What kind of ratio's are there at Truman? And what's your specialty I'm interested in PCU if you have any leads. Any other facilities you would recommend? Thanx
