Hi all,
Im new to the site and posted this in the Pediatric forum at first. I am a 3 year Neonatal ICU nurse from Florida relocating to North Carolina. I interviewed at Mission Hospital and was extremely pleased with the unit and think it would be a great place to work. I left the interview concerned that I did not get the position and applied to WakeMed and Duke. I was offered the position at Mission a few days after finding out I had secured interviews at the other hospitals. I absolutely love the Asheville area and have heard wonderful things about their NICU. I have never been to Durham/Raleigh but am of course interested in working at Duke. Does anyone have any opinions on quality of life and work environment for either of these hospitals? I'm not sure I'll even get a position at Duke but don't want to think I missed out by accepting the job at Mission without looking at all of my options. I am a single woman in my late 20s without children. Thank you!!
When I got the call for the initial offer, I missed it. I bet I called 30 times (literally) and left several messages over the next few days before I got ahold of anyone! From what I'm told, Mission's HR is super busy.
From what I can gather, orientation isn't held very often. It must be an intense affair. I got my schedule and it's FIVE days for 8-9 hours a day and then a 6th day is "nursing skills lab". I'm curious about the lab and I'm seriously dreading those 5 days of orientation!
I go September 24th. I still have to give my two weeks at my work so I'm glad they had another opening at that time.
Oh, that's good! They acted like it would be forever before I would get to do orientation again! But I'm a new grad and I know they hired a bunch of new grads so maybe we have our own orientation? Did you get your orientation schedule?
Are you days or nights?

Crazier: I spoke with HR today and they told me they were just waiting on references to schedule my orientation date. I followed up with 3 of my references and had them re-send the survey that was e-mailed to them. I'm not sure if this information helps in your case or not. Good luck!
