Missed work, feel HORRIBLE!

I feel like I did the worst thing in the entire world today. I had my schedule written down wrong and I was scheduled to work today and I missed and didnt know it! I feel like the worst person on earth today. Everyone was worried about me and that made me feel even worse. Everyone seemed fine about it, there were plenty of people to work, but I still feel like throwing myself into oncoming traffic for being so stupid! I just dont know how to feel better or what I can possibly do to rectify the situation. Anyone got any tips? Right now I'd give a kidney to feel better about what I did. Has anyone else done something like this before? Right now I just hate myself. I just dont want anyone to think I'm a complete idiot and I can do my job right. Any words of encouragement or anyone want to say "YES YOU ARE A COMPLETE IDIOT!" To new grads, check your schedule religiously!!! I'm a screw up, dont be a moron like me! I am getting a datebook tomorrow and I'll probably bake cookies or a cake or something to make myself feel better and bring it to work. Any other ideas just shoot them at me. Lots of love to all fellow new grads who are far better nurses than me, take care and God bless all of you!

It's a mistake...take it easy on yourself! ;) Everybody makes mistakes!!! Just be more careful checking your schedule.

Heh, heh--boy, you really are dumb. Er, but so am I, and quite a few other people I know. I have also seen people show up for work on days they weren't scheduled. It happens. It's embarrassing, yes, but I doubt it will ever happen again. I use a date book, too, and our clerk usually makes everyone a copy of their schedule.

Take it easy on yourself. Making a habit of this would be a problem, but a one-time instance just gives your co-workers a chance to enjoy a good laugh at your expense. You aren't the first, and you won't be the last.

I did have another no-call, no-show, years ago, when I couldn't reach the Charge Nurse to call off, so I left a message with the clerk. It wasn't counted against me, but I never made that mistake, again. My manager laughed about that one, but I still call as many times as it takes to inform the proper authority.

good heavens, we all make mistakes! it happens. you apologize, vow not to let it happen again, then let it go. just double check your schedule an extra time next time.

I did something very similar during my first year of nursing and felt HORRIBLE about it! In my case, I had copied down the wrong day from the schedule (either that or the schedule was changed after I copied down the days, can't remember which). Someone called from work and I QUICKLY made it in! Things like this happen. Quit being so hard on yourself :)

first, make sure that it WAS your mistake.....i had someone change the schedule on me, without telling me, and should up on a day i wasnt supposed to....good luck, and make the cake chocolate, lol

Hey cheer up!:) everybody makes mistakes, its what makes us human. Take it as a learning experience

I've done it too... and when I raced into work at 9pm after getting the dreaded phone call at 7:45, my charge nurse told me that everyone does it. Things happen. What you NEVER do is get that call and say "No, sorry, can't come, I'm out to dinner." Unless you have child care issues that CANNOT be solved, you get your butt in there. I had to take extra patients once because this girl was out with her boyfriend and refused to come in. If it's an honest mistake and you get in there as fast as you can, nobody will hate you.

I did a no show once for eve shift , I was out and didn't check my voice mail until the NEXT DAY!! I felt bad, it was my mistake completely, I've never done it again, I have also showed up when not on-- it happens when we are on all shifts , 7 days a week. I've seen it happen to many others as well.Don't beat yourself up, we are all human

Been there, done that. Don't be so hard on yourself.
