Miss/Skip last PM clinical tell the truth(NEED time 2 study 4 final or fib?

Published

OK so I am on the edge with ALLLL my RN classess (i dont remember LPN being this difficult!) so anywho I'm so lucky to have clincals 1.5 hrs away on a horrid drive with endless turns and curves. And I had a test today (tues), test wed. (shud be studying now woops) and clinicals thurs. evening (w. drive time 12-9) and my hugggeee final on Friday morning.... so i literally have no time to study for this final we were supposed to be studing for all semester!

I am allowed to miss one clinical shift that would be excused. All the other instructors dont seem to mind if they take there excused day off.... although discouraged it is still excused. My instructor (amazing woman don't get me wrong but she's strict) doesn't want us to miss any clinical day for absolutely any reason. she said we will be docked participation pnts but still technically we are allowed an EXCUSED day w/o an excuse.

My big thing is i literally cant afford any extra missed study time for this final It would be detrimental to my overall grade! I dont want to have gone through all this for absolutely nothing!

SOOOO should i call her, like everyone else will and make up some excuse, in which she expects to happen, obviously 10 ppl cant all have the flu at once.

OR just be honest and say I have been struggling with many things this semester and if i dont take this (1/2) day off it would be detrimental to my grade and lead to a failing grade.... I'd rather be honest but shell most likely make me feel guilty for letting my other classmates down, putting a harming my clinical experience yadayada....

WHAT SHOULD I DO!!??

I'd be honest, but would the participation points hurt you more than the missed study time? Also, if it's anything like my clinicals before big tests, everyone is keyed up and verbally reviewing the information in the halls between patients. I have learned so much from my classmates the last clinical day before big tests. It seems they are always obsessing over pieces that I didn't have much time to study, so by being there I get the benefit of their studying. If you've experienced that with your peers, I'd say go to clinicals!

I personally would turn the computer off, record some study material to listen to on the drive, and own the responsibility for the fact that I should have been studying all along. Then I'd go to bed so I could get up for clinicals. I have a two hour commute every single day, work full time, and take care of my kid all day. It's all about effective time management. Good luck!

First you're lucky you can miss a clinical we can't, anything we miss we have to make up or we fail and then out of the program. Second, while your instructor might apprecitate your honesty if she is strict I think she will still want you to show up. Who knows maybe on the last day she might let you out early. I say go to clinicals.

GOOD LUCK!!

Go to your clinical. When you own your responsibility, things have a way of working out. But if you feel you must miss a day of clinical, be honest with your instructor. There's always a price to pay for deceit.

Some questions for you:

How many points will you loose?

How many points out of the total points for the class have you earned at this point?

How many more points are there left to earn?

What grade do you want?

Wow really?

Lie or tell the truth......hmm this is a tough one.

I would go to clinical, especially if there's a chance that you may lose points and jeopardize passing the class. However, if you are going to take that excused absence, I would be honest with her about the reason why, as lies have a habit of coming out in the end.

Also, though it may be too late to do anything about it in this semester, keep this lesson in mind for the next semester. Spend the winter break figuring out where you went wrong in your study habits and come up with a plan to better address them.

We are allowed to miss 2-3 (depending on the semester) clinical days. The days have to be made up, but you can miss that many and it doesn't matter the reason you are missing. The school had the make up days already planned into the schedule and it's a full make up day with the full prep work and so on.

When I was struggling with a class in my second semester and had my final approaching but 3 night shift clinicals the days leading up to it, I was straight up with my Clinical instructor. Told her I had a lot of personal stuff going on at home that was affecting my exams and that I needed to miss a clinical to focus on the final because if I didn't do well on the final I would be redoing the entire class anyway. She was very nice about it and even tried to talk to me about what was going on at home and loaned me a NCLEX book she had.

I miss one of the 3 nights, studied and got myself pulled back together and passed the class (with a very narrow margin to spare) and made up my clinical day.

I am a straight up kind of person though and would just tell the truth. I am the person that gets pulled over and when asked if I knew I was speeding or why I was I just tell the truth.
