Mira Costa, Palomar, etc. Spring 2019 Cohort

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi everyone,

I know it's early, but I wanted to start a thread for everyone applying or hoping to apply for any ADN programs (Mira Costa, Palomar, Grossmont, SCC, MSJC, etc.) in the Spring!

Feel free to post questions, potential points, admission notifications, etc.! I'm super anxious to hear everyone's experiences and compare points! :)

I'm so confused, I was denied with 91 points.

I heard from admin that sometimes they don't count certain points if their documents aren't sufficient enough, or classes aren't equivalent, etc.. Did you apply to Palomar??

I was denied from Mira Costa as well.. but it was expected! I had 86 points. I am really hoping for Palomar.. Congrats Aminahflor! Aminahflor, is Mira costa your first choice? I forgot!

Yes! If I don't get in for the Spring cohort, I will probably wait until Fall 2019. It's definitely my top school

When do you guys think we will hear from Palomar?

Oh how the time flies! I am currently halfway done with third semester and have seriously enjoyed the program at Palomar college. The instructors are great, but don't expect to pass without crying and sweating. In first semester, more than half 2/3 of the class got a C. some B's, No A's. We lost about 5 students due to tests scores and unsafe clinical practice. In first semester, there are 5 tests and you must pass 3 out of the 5 (27.5/40) on the tests. The first 5 weeks (not 4) are the schedules from Monday-Thursday (with open lab on Friday - and HIGHLY recommended you attend as they keep hours on who attends and if you fail a skill test, they'll know if you have been practicing the skills during open lab). After week 5, you start clinical. You go to lecture Monday and Tuesday, and clinical on any day from Wednesday to Friday (or Saturday). So after week 5, you start to see the light at the end of the tunnel (and that's a good thing because you start to get used to NCLEX style questions and you start seeing patients during clinical). I highly suggest looking over the math book for the math competency test, as everyone has to pass with a 90% or higher (you get 2 tries). First semester was definitely the most challenging semester. But you will love it and will make great friendships out of it. I am member of SNAP (a student nursing club at palomar college that represents the nursing students) so I hope I see you guys at the orientation!! Good luck you all and Palomar is definitely an amazing school for you guys to begin your nursing journey!!

One of the instructors from Palomar was at my work this morning with the students and said we should be hearing back "very soon".

Maybe Monday?

The anticipation is killing me

I emailed Palomar and they told me they were going to try and let everyone know "in the next few weeks."

Hi everyone! Called Palomar yesterday and they just said they had a lot of applicants but we should hear back "soon." Also, good luck to those going to Miracosta! I declined my admittance but for reference I had 98 points. Good luck everyone!

98 points is AMAZING! Is Palomar your first choice? I am impatiently waiting. I hope 85 points and no healthcare experience (minus volunteering) is enough... praying hard..

I actually ended up going with CSUSM! If it helps, I was an intern/volunteer through Pathmaker at Palomar Hospital and that was all the experience I had too. The waiting sucks but I hope it all works out for all of us :)
