50 Minute drive to work.... would you take it?

Hi I am a fairly new nurse and have 8 months of experience in Med-surg. I have been applying for another job for a couple months. It looks like I might actually have found something but it is in another city with a 50 minute drive. It is in LTACH and night shift. I know I shouldn't be picky especially with the current job market. Would you take it? I know it is an excellent opportunity with lots of room for growth. The ration is 5:1 and 2:1 for their critical care. I just don't know if driving 50 minutes after a 12 hour night shift on an open road is a good idea. Please any help/advice is greatly appreciated.

This post is cute. Haha! Here in Los Angeles, it takes 50 minutes to get ANYWHERE. Groceries, restaurants, the dry cleaners, work.....we budget an hour of traffic even if it's just a few miles. I'm sorry to giggle at you, but wow. 50 minutes. Many Angelenos would LOVE such a short commute!!!!

I totally understand. If this is the only thing you are being offered you might as well take it. It was the same issue with my first job, it was the only thing I was being offered at the time so I had to take it. It is hard to drive after working nights but you will get used to it over time. And it is a great opportunity, don't let this pass you by! lol

as a travel recruiter i would have to say it depends on the pay. by traveling over 50 miles u would qualifty for non taxable money which makes a big difference. i would look into the reputation of the facility first as some ltachs have very bad reps and that will follow u. good luck!

While the 50 mile rule keeps the travel agency in check with pay tax free monies there really is no such thing as the 50 mile rule when it comes to the IRS.

That does not apply if you are taking a permanent position. If you take a position for an employer that is located 50+ miles from your home, that's your deal. If your employer is located 5 miles from your home and they require you to commute occasionally to their main office which is much farther away, you can claim those miles. But your every day commute is just that.
