Hello, quick question...I'm hoping to be getting in Army Nursing by next year. I know as a single person, I was told we generally live off base, as families are the ones who generally live on base. So my question is, how difficult would it be to live in & move around in the military if I bought a 5th Wheel RV? I know there are military RV parks by each base, but it sounds like those are more for "temporary" leisure stays & not for actually living in. Other than that, I know nothing else about the possibilities of this. Can anybody help? Thanks! Holly :onbch:

No, there aren't "military rv parks by each base"; there might be trailor parks, but as a single officer, it wouldn't reflect well and your peers/coc would probably pressure you into moving somewhere else. It would be more of a hassle than its worth: base inspections, securing it during deployment, the mocking that would go on behind your back....seriously, don't do it.

Why live in an RV? You are going to get a housing allowance...

Hmm I am not sure about military RV parks... Plus if there were would they be available next month, next year???
I don't know if all the services are the same but I was told that the housing allowances are set to local markets; if you co cheaper the difference is still yours to put in the bank.
Living in an RV would probably drive me nuts... Although I have seen traveling nurses do it for months at a time.
Yeah, I know it would drive some people nuts. I personally am trying to get rid of a lot of my "stuff" in life so that I can simplify better. I just get tired of moving & I love to travel. I was thinking it would be nice to put my money into something that I would eventually own versus rent that would never be seen again :grn:. Thanks for the input! :)

my 2cents.
RV would not be a good place to live out of - while in the military.... however there IS military RV storage available on every post/base...
If you want to save money I suggest living slightly below your means ..but don't recommend the RV..this will probably be more pain in the hiney then anything else - i concur with above statements on pressure from peers, it will not be conducive to military lifestyle and the locations near bases/posts are not likely to have a RV park that anyone could live for an extended period of time and not be in a trashy area...
