Midwestern State University Applying for fall 2014

Published

Hi guys!

I am thinking about applying for the program at MSU this feb. to start in the fall. I have been a student there before but am transferring back. I have 3 more classes to take which I will take there this spring. right now I have calculated my points to be 48.5 which I could easily mess up adding the points since I find the system confusing at times or I'm just extremely stressed about it lol.... I am wondering if it is worth applying, or to wait one more semster. Anyone else applying soon? I am especially nervous, I am ready to get into a program and get this over with!!! Comments and encouragment greatly appreciated (: And its nice to get to know some of the potential students I could possibly be with (:

I have decided to wait for one more semester to raise my GPA But you do not HAVE to have a lab with chemistry or I was told you did not. I made an 85 over all on the hesi I am also a CNA. But I think it is better that I wait to apply I will also have break before the nursing semester starts if I wait. I will only be part time the semester before with simple classes to take lol. I am taking Micro and chem this summer as retakes to raise my GPA

@Brittward that is good that you are doing what will benefit you in the long run! I Pray it all works out!

Hey y'all! Sorry for the late response. I like the program so far! I've met great people and for the most part the professors are helpful & nice. I moved from Dallas. I don't think commuting will be a good idea. The program is VERY rigorous and you spend a lot of time in the WF area doing clinicals, SIMS labs and on campus. A girl in my class commuted from Dallas the 1st semester and it took a toll on her. She finally decided to move 2nd semester.

To give you all an idea of the schedule...

My 1st semester schedule:

family health assessment: M 1-3:50pm

intro to nursing: W 1-3:50pm

Sim lab: Thurs 8am-10am

NO CLINICALS 1ST SEMESTER!

(Alot of students also took pathophysiology & statistics but I had already taken those courses)

My 2nd semester

Pharmacology: MW 8am-9:20am

Basic Nursing: MW 9:30-10:50am

Basic Nursing Clinical: Thurs 6:45am-3:45pm (every other Thursday)

Basic nursing Simulation lab: Thurs 8am-1pm (every other Thursday)

My 3rd semester

Mental Health: MW 3pm-4:20pm

Med. Surg 1: MW 4:30pm-5:50pm

Mental Health clinical: Thur 8am-4pm

Med surg clinical: Sat 6:15am-7:15pm (you choose 5 clinical days or nights 6:30pm-7am)

Med surg Simulation lab: Fri 8:30am-11:30am (you choose 4 days)

Nursing research: online

Although the program is 2.5 years I honestly wouldn't have preferred anywhere else. Like VanDouanla said, WF is a great college town to complete your BSN. It's a small town, not much to do which leads to less distractions (you'll be studying your butt off once you get into the program anyway). The schedule is challenging but the material isn't as compacted as most schools since you have an extra .5 year. I hope this helps! You guys can do it! Good luck!

Thank you for the post!!!! That was very helpful

Is the Sims lab located on campus? If I don't have a car for transportation first semester would that be a burden?

I will be applying to midwestern as well.

anybody applying to WTAMU?

Hey guys, Im taking the Hesi at MSU tomorrow and Im really nerves. did any body take their Hesi at MSU? if so please tell me how u did and give me some advice. how should I prepare for vocab and grammer???

Thank you.

Does anyone know about student housing (apartments/dorms) I'm going to midwestern to turn in my app after my 8 week session is done. I'm going to have CR add my points up for me so I will know how many I have before turning in my application.

@Ebii I only applied to two other schools; TCU and Grayson College besides Midwestern. What other schools are you applying too besides midwestern and wtamu?

@BttyBetty011 I studied a Hesi Study Guide Manual, I would FOCUS on the vocabulary part because MOST of those words are on the test. For the grammar I would stick to the manual and prepare that way. I took my test at a Prometric Testing Center in Dallas, but I'm pretty sure all the test are generalized the same at any location. Math was the easiest for me study proportions, fractions, and percents (using a calculator helped too). The reading was okay... just focus on your "main ideas/conclusions". Anatomy has the LEAST questions so study for that areas such as cardiovascular, reproductive, and digestive. You should do great!

@ Nursingqueen2b i applied to uthsc houston and WTAMU.

@nursingqueen2b for transportation it depends if you live close to school. the is a bus who runs from m-f. it is called the mustang bus its route is like a circle round the university and it carries students directly to school. it's like a 5 min trip. during the weekend you can take the normal buses if you like. they also run during the week, but they go all around the city.

for housing it really depends on you, i don't live on campus. the dorms are ok for me and i think it is a little expensive cuz they make you buy meal plans. you can try unfurnished apartments close to the school and find a roommate to share the rent . me i am satisfied with where i am. it is called the grove but it has been renamed to mustang village. it comes all furnished + washer and drier and all bills included i.e internet, cable, water and electricity in the rent. i have a roommate but we don't share the same rent. they always have deal. right now i pay $486 and they gave me January and june free but as from august i will be paying $415

I was going to apply to UT Houston but my hesi transcript was sent to TCU and I did not have time to get it transferred to Houston.

I'm going to check out Mustang Village! Will rent in the fall be 415 or is that because you are currently living there?

Also do you all have a gym at the apartments?
