Vent -

I work 2230 - 0630. I have worked midights for 2 1/2 years. I sleep from 0730 - to about 1400. I am sick of making appointments with physicians, dentists, optomitrists and explaining to them, "I work until 0630, do you have anything in the late afternoon?" and they reply "Yes we have something at 1330." Like seriously? Do I ask people to come in to their appointments at 3am?

Sorry, I had to vent. This has happened to me 4 times in two weeks.

Yeah, don't you just hate it when the neighbors start mowing at the crack of noon. :D

Or how about when your COWORKERS call your house at 1300 to see if you'd be interested in coming in at 1500 to work a double - I am ASLEEP, people, and if you want me back there at 1900, it's in your best interest to see to it that I stay that way!

We fight over who gets to call people at 4 am when we have call ins for working their days off! LOL!

I just turn off the ringer on my phone when I'm sleeping between night shifts. I think trying to train the rest of the world is a hopeless battle...

I love our Ice Cream truck Lady- She decides she needs to start her rounds at noon and she comes back every hour until around 8pm. Every now and then I will wake up to that and can't get back to sleep- But most days i'm able to sleep through it!

Yesterday I had the Cox (Our internet cable provider Guy) come to the door at 9am. COME BACK LATER-i'm SLEEPING!!!!

Tee hee!

I love the night shift though. :)

I love the night shift. I completely turn off the phone ringer and the door bell is out of commission.

If anyone wants me, they have to come in the house and physically wake me up. There are only two people who know how to get in - and it's staying that way! Luckily, I don't have children to worry about.

I try to do all my appointments as early as possible. I will do very late afternoon if I have to. I find it easier on my body to try to keep to the same schedule, so I stay up most of the night during my off nights too!

The rest of the world be damned; we are on night shift!

Yes!!! Which is why I'm up now at 0345. I generally sleep from 0400 until 1200 on my days off, so it's only half a step off my noc shift schedule. It's just too hard to bounce back and forth between a night and day shift world.

I was always a night owl, even as a kid. Scheduling was one factor in deciding which career path to take. There aren't too many jobs for teachers or lawyers on noc shift.

I love the wee hours. I like the darkness, the solitude, and the relative lack of crowding. Staying off the main world radar suits me just fine.

I have learned to turn off my phone when I am sleeping... I also just had my husband say to me... Why are you tired, you slept all day yesterday... I worked the night before and did not sleep before my night shift... SO, yes I guess I got 6 hours of sleep for two whole days... WOW... How silly of me to be tired... :)

I do love nights however, and would not change for anything... Good luck to you

How about the scheduler at your work who only allows us to sign up for our schedule (we do self scheduling) during her business hours M-F which happen to end 1 hour before night shift begans and 2 hours after night shift leaves. It's a pain to come up really early or on your day off just to spend a few minutes to do your schedule. Not very considerate for the night shift!
