Middle Georgia State University (MGA) Fall 2024

Published

Has any applied to MGU and got accepted? An ICU nurse at my job told me about the program stating she had low test scores and a 2.6 GPA and got accepted into the program. I have a 3.0 overall GPA and a 3.25GPA in my sciences. I applied to southern crescent last year(as they don't have restrictions of the age of sciences) with a HESI A2 score of 82 and didn't get in.  Some of my sciences are expired and I didn't see any restrictions on the school site about expired classes. I noticed they reopened applications to 4/30/24. I applied for the school and sent over my transcripts and rushed to take the TEAS before the deadline but made a 67 on the TEAS. BUMMER. but it's passing and above the required score so I could still apply. I wondered what other who've been accepted looked like.

Should you all get in, & I hope you do, I can give you access to my quizlet folder for the NURS1000 class. I have an A average so far. Grading is STRICCCTTTT. you have to have a 75% TEST average for the class to pass. It does not matter if you got straight A's on all the homework/project assignments, those grades DO NOT factor in UNLESS you have the passing testing average FIRST! Students have failed the course with a 74.9 and they DO NOT round up! Exams are spaced out pretty well. I'd start researching how to take nursing exam styled questions before starting. The question style trips a lot of people up. Many failed the first exam bc of this. STAY AHEAD OF THE CURVE if you can. If you haven't already, find a job that is flexible around your school schedule or simply work part time on weekends. They are strict on attendance. Miss 2 days and its 10 points off your final grade, so say you have a test average of 84% and missed 3 days of class, you just failed the course with a 74%. Make sure you are able to meet expectations of this program bc they do not want to hear a sob story. Get on birthcontrol NEOOWWW if you can LOL. You can 4 semesters of *** energy on the wayyyyy. LOL

@Monise Jai please don't forget about the access to you NURS 1000 folder. Also what textbooks do they use? When you say exams are spaced out how far apart? Can you provide some information from orientation as far as scrubs shoes etc

Thanks

Does anyone know what textbooks are used for the ASN program? I want to start at least reading.

Hey! I'm a third semester student about to wrap things up with finals in a couple days. I graduate in May 2025 and I love checking back on here from time to time to see new students and share your excitement! OP is right about the program being organized and the faculty being top-notch. But you gotta put in the work. They use ATI books for the first semester in addition to another textbook from the author Ignatavicius for Med-Surg in the following semesters. I believe they are changing the latter to a different one (Evolve or smth like that) for upcoming cohorts. In terms of scrubs, I sure hope they make it more flexible for ya'll cause I hate it LOL please plan to buy at least one extra pair of scrubs later on because you might gain weight like I did. White, preferably wipeable shoes. The ones at their partner store are pretty uncomfortable. I ditched those and got a pair of white Gales. Still not that comfortable but much better. Keep in mind schedules change each semester but lecture day will only be once a week. Second semester, with Med-Surg and Mental Health, you will have some weeks with 2 separate clinical days on top of the once-a-week lecture day. Same for third semester with Med-Surg and OB/Peds. Glad to know this school is getting more recognition because despite the stress, I feel fully supported to succeed. Best of luck to ya'll!

@imthufam thanks so much means a lot coming from someone else who is actually in the same program. I'm registered for fundamentals just waiting to see what day I'll have clinical and where.

I am in pre nursing and was wondering if taking the chemistry route over the biology route had more success getting into the BSN program?

I think either route is fine as long as your grades and GPA are decent. Their nursing programs (ASN or BSN) aren't picky as long as you meet and/or exceed the application requirements. I do have to note, though, if you are intending to enter the BSN program that it is best not to work or have other outside, full-time commitments as it is so much more intense in terms of coursework and time management. We have a few people in our cohort who have switched from the BSN to ASN program. They don't let you transfer nursing credits earned from your BSN to the ASN so you have to start over again. I do plan on going back for their online BSN program once I get my RN license this Summer.

Yes ! My cohort has about 90 students, the largest yet and although many failed fundamentals last semester between the BSN & ASN program the grading scale changed to make a 74 a passing grade and many BSN students are now taking fundamentals in the ASN program. We have a lot of BSN students in my cohort as well.  I think the ASN program is easier. Plus both programs take the NCLEX. I'd love to ask you some questions about 2nd semester with (MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME - PLEASE DO NOT POST IDENTIFYING INFO ABOUT OTHERS)
