Just getting the Microbiology thread started for those of us taking it this summer :) Let's introduce ourselves. I'm sure we may recognize each other from the A&P thread and hopefully there will be some new students too!
I'm Jennifer, married with 3 kids (11,6,2). I'm starting the nursing program in August and other than my humanities elective, I'll be ALL DONE with gen. ed. courses. I've been a SAHM for 7 years but am considering a PT summer job to help pay for expenses (mine and DD's - middle school is expensive between cheerleading ($305), flute ($700!!) and the newly mandated uniforms ). Oh and I have been a mystery shopper for 7 years too which basically helps us get out and do stuff that we otherwise wouldn't be able to afford.
My classes start May 17. I'm taking Micro Tues, Wed, Thurs from 6-9 (lecture from 6-7:20, lab from 7:30-9.) I'm also taking English 102 online. YUCK. I don't want to write papers this summer. We're using Tortoro's book in Micro, BTW.
I really have no idea what to expect for this course. I did very well in A&P 1 and 2 (A :balloons: ) but am feeling a bit burnt out - having only 1 week off between spring and summer semester is not enough. We have the entire week of July 4th off for break, and DH and I are surprising our kids with a week in Disneyworld We can't wait!! I spend way too much time on the DIS boards and planning our trip:p
I'm in the middle of Microbiology for summer II and so far, so good. I'm hanging on with an A...barely. It is not as difficult as I thought it would be. In fact it is easier than A&P I and II. My success comes from organization and daily persistence. Monday is the first day of application for the Spring 2006 class. Just another month until I take the enteranc test. Good luck to all.:)

I wish I was getting the kind of grades you ladies are. I am LUCKY to get a C in this class. Our teacher is VERY hard. We had in one week 10 labs due, 2 quizzes and a test for 125 pts. I work full time plus go to school. He is nuts. We are doing our unknown right now and I have gram negative rods. I am doing the IMViC test right now to see what I can get rid of. If it comes out they way I hope it does I will be down to four. Then I think I will be doing a EMB steak test to see if it is E. coli or K. oxytaca. (not sure on the spelling) I hope it comes out to be E. coli so I can write it up and be done with it. I have three more classes and a final to go. :roll I can't wait. I just HOPE to get a passing grade. I would have loved to get an A since all my other classes I have an A. Oh well, one C won't hurt me too bad I guess.
Good luck.
I was the same way, but managed an A with bonus questions and partial credits. I'm so glad my instructor offered them. I understand your gratefulness of a C.
Good luck on finding out your unkown, and your final.

I'm Kristin and am married with a 2 year old.
I am totally STRESSED out from my micro class. The funny part is that I find the information VERY interesting, but I can't seem to keep it all straight in my head. I love Micro lab, but have trouble with the darn gram stain decolorizer.
I know it's cliche to blame the instructor, so I won't. But he is hard, and I just have to learn to adapt to his style. (He is an MD, and on tests tends to question you on the smallest detail that he mentioned for two words in class.)
Oh well, good to vent.
Thanks

I think it is interesting what different people think is easier/harder. I found A+P I and II easier than micro.
I'm yet another SAHM taking Micro this summer! Our girls are 6 years & 3 years.I just finished Dev Psych online last night. I scored high enough on the three exams to be excused from the final. My A & P I final is next Tuesday. I have a 97 going into the final, so I'm just hoping to keep my A.
Next Thursday morning we are leaving for a family vacation to Hilton Head, SC - our favorite place on earth!! Since my online Micro class starts while we are away, the professor gave me permission to make-up the lab when we return. (Summer Micro is a 12 week class, with a three hour lab once a week.) Micro will be over August 12th, and nursing school orientation begins August 16th. I knew we had to sneak a vacation in this month or not take one until next year at spring break!
In my previous life - before children - I was a civil engineer. I had a great 10 year career that I left when our oldest daughter was born. Now that the girls will both be in school in the fall, it was time to find something to do outside of the home. The thought of going back into engineering wasn't exciting me - even though DH owns an engineering firm and offered me a job! Last fall I decided to look into nursing school, and began taking my co-reqs early.
I look forward to getting to know all of you this summer! I'd love to hear how everyone is juggling motherhood and school!! In our house, nobody has clean clothes and there is no food in the house leading up to my A & P exams. The girls are okay with it, but DH gets a bit upset. He's just used to being spoiled......

What does SAHM stand for?
SAHM stands for Stay at home mom.
As for A&P vs MicroSUX!....I guess it all depends on your instructor, and what you are interested in.
I like A&P better, and found it easier. (But I did manage an A in Micro. as well as A&P 1, and I'm in A&P 2 now).
I prefer not to have to learn about how little microscopic critters breath. I'm sure that will not help my future patients get to feeling better.
