Microbiology - Fall 2008

Hi ya'll! Anybody taking Micro this coming fall semester and want to form a study group? I did this for A&P I and II and it helped tremendously! I'm taking it along with Chem 1151 (Survey of Chem). Thanks!

I'm at ccp. These are the remainder of my pre-req for nursing. I take the allied health test jan 13, 09. I will apply to ccp and roxborough nursing progam. But ccp is the 1st school of my choice. I know it will be hard but I am picking the professors I want and will suffer for a few months. Then I can have the summer off prior to school. thanks.

how did you do? I have a 4 children and will be taking microbiology, A&P2, and nutrition spring 09. I need to do this to have to summer free before starting nursing school next fall. Can you give me some advise?

I agree that getting these classes out of the way before you start your professional courses is good, but you will have your hands full with micro and A&P2. Nutrition won't be too terribly tough, but it will be important to absorb it all as you will have to take a nurtition based nursing course. With 4 babies...:eek:, God bless you sis! I wish you all the best. I start nursing school in 4 weeks, and I'm glad I got micro out of the way for a clear mind going into nursing school. In micro, just focus on understanding the differences btw gram- and gram+ bacteria, their morphologies, staining techniques and knowing how to identify them under the microscope. PAY ATTENTION IN THE LAB, it makes the lecture easier. Best of luck!

I'm gonna disagree, a little bit. Gram - vs. Gram + is really simple (thin vs. thick peptidoglycan), and morphology is of minimal importance (as you cant really identify many bacteria just by looking at them). I would focus on the differential tests, particularly those of clinical/medical importance (such as tests differentiating Staph/strep. [as well as identifying species], identification of coliforms, etc.), protozao of clinical importance, how to streak a plate for isolation, and so on. Also, its often overlooked, but in my opinion, the single most important skill or concept you can learn in that class is good aseptic technique. Trust me, its an unbelievably important skill to have.

(the part about paying attention in lab is great advice, though)

It feels so strange to be done with the semester already! My lecture final was tonight, I feel pretty good about it really. Got my lab final back from last week and I got a 100% on it! :D

Tonight for the final I made everyone cookies. Gotta have some good sugar to get the brain working right? :D

i had my lecture final today as well. i'm pretty sure i got an a in the class. i kind of slacked when studying for this test, so we'll see. i'm sure it wasn't my highest scored test--might even be my lowest.

now for three weeks of relative relaxation until i start nursing school.
