Microbiology - Fall 2008

Published

Hi ya'll! Anybody taking Micro this coming fall semester and want to form a study group? I did this for A&P I and II and it helped tremendously! I'm taking it along with Chem 1151 (Survey of Chem). Thanks!

Specializes in PICU/Pedi.

Tommorrow is my first micro exam, covering 5 chapters (just bits of a couple of them). I feel alright about it. It will be my FIFTH test in the last week! (2 quizzes, 3 exams) I'm ready to get it over with...

I'm enjoying the class so far :yeah:.

Woohoo!!! thats great!!

Hi!! im a little late joining but i am taking micro this semester as well!!We had our first test on thursday & we had to turn in an article summary, we had to pick from 3 different pathogens the prof. listed. I am using the book Microbiology an Introduction by tortora funke & case!...eighth edition...is anyone else?...Anyway! I am so glad to have found this website! its great great great!

We got our first test back last night and I made an 88. I'm kind of disappointed but then again, it could've been much worse! The prof said the first test is usually the lowest grade for everyone and if that's true, I'm in pretty good shape. May I just say that I'm not a huge fan of microbial genetics?;) What chapters/topics are ya'll covering right now?

Hey Yall tonight is my first test and i am beyond nervous. I am still not too sure how to apply myself to micro.... it seems way more intense to me that all the other sciences i did. pray for me yalll....im sicked out...

Specializes in 2 years as CNA.

I had my first test tonight....well Thursday night, it is now Friday morning! I think that I did pretty good. I am guessing either an A or a high B. Guess we will see on Tuesday!

Specializes in none yet!.

Hi, prokaryotes use ATP as do eukaryotes, hence ATP being called the universal energy carrier. In fact, the mitochondria, which is the mian site of the Krabs cycle in eukaryotic cells is actually a prokaryotic cell that once upon a time had a symbiotic relationship with the eukaryotic cell, to the degree it eventually became an organelle. This is why the mitochondria has it's own mitochondrial DNA.

Hope that helps!

Good luck to all who are taking tests right now. Our 1st test is on Monday over chapters 1-6. I feel alright about it - just hope it does get into TOO much detail. :uhoh21:

Good morning ladies! I was looking this morning online for help with micro and I ended up here and had to join finally. I had looked at allnurses.com before but I was too shy to join in. Time to get over that because I think I need help with this course. I got my first lecture exam back yesterday and I bombed it :(. I have a B so far in lab but that lecture test grade really scared me. I have made an appointment with the professor to go over the test next week.

Is it possible to still pass and end up doing ok if you bomb that first test? There will only be a total of 4 in lecture.

I have bookmarked the wonderful links that were posted earlier in the thread and I look forward to checking them out. Thank you all!!

Welcome!

Definitely don't panic. Think of it this way: now you know your professor's testing style and the types of questions he asks, as well as what kinds of things he thinks are important. The fact that you are going to see him about the test speaks very well of you, and he (or she?) will know you are a serious student. See how you do on the second test, and keep doing the math (your test grade average). It's certainly possible to do pretty well in the class if you bombed the first test, assuming you didn't get a 30 or something like that! What was your first test score?

Anyway, it's too early to panic. :) Keep an eye on your average, and make a note of the last day to withdraw. You may find that after the second test, you're doing fine and you don't even need to think about withdrawing.

Good luck and keep posting! :)

It's a she :). The professor is really nice and she is very enthusiastic about teaching micro. I wish I was as enthusiastic about taking it but I think I let myself get totally intimidated by it even before it began.

The first test covered intro material up to cell metabolism and I got a 56.3% (that first lab test grade was an 85 though). Yikes! The class average was actually pretty low - maybe a 72. There were a few A's and B's but the majority were low C and below. A guy near me made about what I did and a girl I partner with in lab got in the 40's. Normally I am usually a decent B student. I strive for an A always but I never seem to get there often.
