Michigan CRNA Schools

Published

Hey nurses

So I applied to essentially all of the CRNA programs in the state of MI (except MSU r/t different timing). I was accepted to one already (yay!!) and have interviewed at several others - awaiting results. From what I know, they are all awesome programs with different strengths. I've researched their curriculums, costs, rankings, etc. and I am from MI so I know the areas they are in.

If I were to be lucky enough to be accepted to several of them, I don't currently have a first choice. I'm looking for any information/ insight about what makes any of these programs more special/enjoyable/desirable than the others. Anyone heard anything? Know anybody with experience with any of them? The last post I saw comparing these schools was from 2004 so I'm looking for something a little more current.

Thanks!

Congrats on being accepted! Can I ask you which program you have been accepted into? I interviewed at two of the Michigan schools and am still waiting (patiently) to hear.

As far as picking a first choice, it all depends on what is important to you. They are all really good programs with good reputations. They're all DNP. My advice is to go with your gut feeling on how you felt about the vibe from the faculty or info sessions you have participated in. I can tell you I felt more welcomed at one vs the other. But it all depends on what's important for you.

It is not true that all are DNP. Oakland University and Michigan State are DNP. University of Michigan-Flint is DNAP, University of Detroit Mercy and Wayne State are currently Masters programs. In considering which program to attend think about curriculum, nursing vs non-nursing, think about clinical sites, do they go to all crna practices or is it all MD/CRNA, are you competing for cases with residents?,how far do you have to travel, do they have specialty rotations?. What is the cost?-Private vs public is usually quite a difference. After comparing all that, then I agree to go with the vibe. Good luck and best wishes.

Congrats on getting accepted! Mind saying where? I got accepted to UM-flint's program and still waiting on Oakland. I interviewed there around the end of October.

Actually Wayne State has transitioned to the doctorate, I just was accepted there :) and Detroit Mercy is just waiting on their approval, they should find out within the month is what they told me.

Thanks for all of the input! And yes, I was accepted to UDM, Wayne, and Oakland. (Crazy!!) It was honestly a very hard decision for me but I'll be attending Oakland in the fall. Very, very excited. :)

Congratulations mountains&stethoscopes on your acceptance and choosing of a program!

I just graduated and want to apply to schools in Michigan after I get my year of experience hopefully in ICU. Do you mind me asking what GPA range your school usually accepts applicants? I know their website says 3.0 but its usually different when you talk to the advisors at the schools.

Thank you

I can't speak to my program's acceptance, but I can tell you that I graduated from a highly ranked nursing school with a 3.9 GPA. I also had my CCRN, and 4 years of ICU experience (when I started school, 3 when I applied).

Hey there.  I am in a similar situation now... I got into UDM and OU but still pending Wayne.  I am just wondering how your experience has been with OU?  I am considering Wayne and my top choice

thank you for any insight
