Miami Dade College Spring 2015 RN Program

U.S.A. Florida

Hi all!

I wanted to start a thread for all of the Spring 2015 MDC RN applicants. I finally finished all of my pre-req's, and have started studying for the NLN PAX RN exam. I am hoping this thread, like many other MDC threads of the past, can help us all to build friendships, support one another, and most importantly, help us through this difficult process. Welcome! :)

Thanks for the information. Did you have any professors give you any issues regarding uniforms. Someone stated that professor are strict on uniforms that did not come from Miami Dade although Blue Angel scrubs are identical in color and style

never had an issue, nor do i know anyone who has. the scrubs from blue angels are virtually identical - thats where all of mine came from. i could see them having an issue with a different shade of green or an overly tailored top or something like that, but the scrubs from blue angels are fine. if you go into the bookstore they will give you a line like that, but they just say it to scare you into spending your money at the bookstore.

Hey Guys & Gals!

I wanted to know for the CPR course for Healthcare providers at Miami-Dade, do I need to bring the BLS student manual or is it provided by the professor?

*I need an answer since I am taking the class tomorrow (I know I'm a huge PROCRASTINATOR:nailbiting: ) and need to know if I should drop it because I don't have the book.

Thanks so much for clarifying that because I brought my scrubs right after orientation. Were all of your clinical rotations at the same location that you selected in the first semester. I'm aware that we will eventually rotate in specialized areas but will it be at the same hospital? Or do we have to select a new clinical site every semester?

Hey everyone today I completed my CPR/BLS. After doing my research I realized miami dade was asking $79 for this course. I searched courses in my area and found Coast to Coast Medical they are certified with the American Heart Association and the class was only $60. There was no book to purchase, all of the materials you need will be provided to you. The course is one hour and you will receive your card the same day. Coast to Coast Medical is located on 164th and NE 19ave in North Miami Beach

every semester you will have to register for a new clinical site (and in semester 3, 3 sites). registration is usually a shitshow - be prepared. its online and they open up registration at midnight; sometimes on a weekday, sometimes sunday night, there is no rhyme or reason. its first come first serve, so you need to be on your computer and ready to register as soon as the clock strikes 12. clinical sites only have 8 spots so they fill up fast. you should make sure to have a backup choice. the other thing to be aware of is that the nursing department is really not ok with people switching clinicals after you have registered. we have had a lot of issues over the past couple semesters with people ending up in a clinical that was super far from their house and they dont drive, or on the weekend and they work, and the school is really not willing to work with you. the best advice i can give you is to get really proficient at the registration system, if you want to get a specific site.

No need to bring a manual, no worries

Do you recommend getting a rolling backpack or a regular one?

And should we carry a nurse bag to clinicals with us?

a lot of people have a rolling backpack because the books are heavy. i just bring my purse because i found online versions of the books so bring my ipad, a notebook, and printouts of the powerpoints to make notes on.

at clinicals they will tell you to bring as little as possible because there usually isnt storage space. so like a little notebook, a pen, your id/license and some cash, that all fits in your pocket.

some people have bought those clipboards that open up and you can keep loose papers in, but dont bring more than that because they dont really like it.

Thanks so much for guidance. I wish you the best of luck throughout your career. I remember you applying around the same time I applied in Spring 2013. I re-applied and made it in this time around. Patience is a virtue! !
