Miami Dade College Spring 2016 nursing program admission

Updated:   Published

Good morning/night to all who are reading this,

I created this post in the hopes that all applicants applying for the nursing program at Miami dade submit their experience they have had so far and also submit any questions they might have. I'm currently applying for the accelerated option but would like to hear what others are doing in the part time and generic option. A little about me is that I have a BSN in health science (2014) and have taken all the prerequisites with the exception of A&P 2 (which I am retaking in summer b June 22).

Right now my biggest concern is the hesi a2 exam we have to take and making sure i ace it because my science gpa is not so hot right now. I have read prior posts and it seems like A&P is the most challenging section. Has anyone taken it as yet? Your advice would be greatly appreciated. Also I'm worried that after they evaluate my degree they might not take my science subjects and make me re do them ? ? . Has any one's transcript been evaluated yet?

We get the background check at mdc, right?

Hi has anyone received an acceptance letter for the generic program as yet ? I received my acceptance letter on Friday for the Accelerated option program; however I really hope that I get into the generic program !! I applied to the accelerated program as a back up but its an intense program !

Yes, I received it on Friday.

You should click on the link they provided you in the email, an then look for the background step. there is a link that address you to make the appointment for your background and fingerprints. you can choose a nearest facility.

If I have part of my immunization done, do I need to pay $225 to MDC?

So all the immunization we need is 225 at mdc??

Could anyone that's almost done or just graduated from the program summarize step by step how the semesters are (schedule, daily routine)? I can see from the curriculum that the 1st semester is all about fundamentals. I have the book in front of me and it's 2 inches  but overall it looks pretty interesting. My friend tells me that for the first semester we have our clinicals in a nursing home and that is where we apply all our basic skills like bathing, feeding, making beds. The 1st semester is probably the most stressful they say because of the adjustment period. How many times a week are clinicals, what's it like etc?

Guys do everything cause if by orientation you guys are not compliant with Complio you will not register, so by the time you get compliant you will get the left over classes.

Basically your courses are just like how they are on MDCs website, you won't start your clinical course in the nursing home for at least a month after your other classes started so you could have some sort of foundation. The nursing home honestly is the worst... while I was there I was doubting my choice in nursing but honestly you aren't doing nursing work there but CNA work since that is who you will be following.

Clinicals should be once a week, at least that how they have always been in the part time program. Medsurg clinicals are cool, peds and ob clinicals were very interesting, psych clinicals are bleh

As someone else mentioned, you could find most books online in their pdf version which is all you'll need. Don't spend unnecessary money.

Oh and get ready for a headache, if your orientation was anything like mine you will come out of there with more questions than answers and a migraine ?

Guys the Cpr / bls certifications need to come directly from the American Heart Association. I just asked & they told me hospitals might not accept anything else for clinicals.

Also when i came to pay i went to the bookstore and paid for my name plate. It came out to $8.56. The lady said it takes about a month to receive since they need enough people to purchase it, to have them sent out. Once sent out to get done well receive them in 2-3 weeks

Have any of you guys paid yet?

What do you mean by name plate sarame?
