Miami Dade College Spring 2016 nursing program admission

Updated:   Published

Good morning/night to all who are reading this,

I created this post in the hopes that all applicants applying for the nursing program at Miami dade submit their experience they have had so far and also submit any questions they might have. I'm currently applying for the accelerated option but would like to hear what others are doing in the part time and generic option. A little about me is that I have a BSN in health science (2014) and have taken all the prerequisites with the exception of A&P 2 (which I am retaking in summer b June 22).

Right now my biggest concern is the hesi a2 exam we have to take and making sure i ace it because my science gpa is not so hot right now. I have read prior posts and it seems like A&P is the most challenging section. Has anyone taken it as yet? Your advice would be greatly appreciated. Also I'm worried that after they evaluate my degree they might not take my science subjects and make me re do them ? ? . Has any one's transcript been evaluated yet?

Did you applied for this semester too? And you have not received the acceptance letter?

I paid for 1 year

Do you guys know where I can do the cpr class for cheap?

Sarame31 help me!!! I tried to registerd with the reference # and I cannot please check it again and let me know how you write it cpr amd reference or bls and the #?

@hope5: I ended up doing what bebebs did and got a cpr course through groupon.

Regardless I am going to ask tomorrow since I'm going to be at medical campus at 8 am to pay for my seat, I'm going to ask if that's acceptable. I'm also asking about the Complio whether to get it for a year or two and the differences. I'll keep you updated!

I am a 3rd semester nursing student in the Generic program at MDC Homestead. Re. Complio. I signed up fro two years just to get it over with. Otherwise you have to sign up again after the first year. Just made life easier when you have other things to worry about.

Can get vaccines at Walmart- so far that is the cheapest we have found1 approx. $5 cheaper than Walgreens or CVS.

I have a few books to sell if anyone is interested- Fundamentals book and the book by Jarvis used for Health Assessment. I am pretty sure they are using a newer version for Health Assessment here at Homestead but many are still using the older book as it is cheaper.

Prefer Homestead student to sell to as I know Fundamentals will be using same book I have as I know the professor.

Let me know if any Spring Homestead student is interested.

Btw- warning- orientation is rather lame. Just want to give you the heads up. Suggestions for books that will help- Fundamentals for Success- see if you can find someone with an online version. It will help you the first semester get into the swing of things answering critical thinking questions. That it seems is what everyone has the most difficulty with.

Brush up on medical terminology. If you don't know what a word is in the question, how can you possibly pick the right answer. The lingo is a completely different language so can be a challenge to many.

Buy the Saunders- NCLEX review book- It is about $60.00 but has been the most worthwhile thing I have bought. Mine is now almost falling apart I have used it so much. Buy it new with the code inside. That code and the online review questions will be invaluable to you to help you study for the HESI each semester. Remember in MDC the HESI is worth 15% of your entire grade so unless you have an A in the class you cannot afford to get a big fat 0 on the test. At MDC you must get 750 to get any points for the HESI. Below 750= 0 and will basically drop your grade 2 letter grades- A to C, B to D etc.

Good luck and when they say you need to study they are not joking. Our class started off with 50 people- 23 flunked fundamentals, we lost 12 more in Pharmacology and Med Surg. Out of the original group I think we have 15-17 left so far and I am in 3rd semester.

Nursing school has been one of the hardest things I have done and one that I am most proud of. Keep studying- you can do it!!

The one am talking about is 29 dollars

I will get my background on tuesday, after my fingerprints maybe I am going to medical campus to pay for the seat.

The background and finger print is all in one

Yes, it's the same process.

Fingerprint s and background are the samething. They do your background check with your fingerprints and sent them to mdc from 48 to 72 hours
