Miami Dade College Spring 2016 nursing program admission

Nursing Students School Programs

Updated:   Published

Good morning/night to all who are reading this,

I created this post in the hopes that all applicants applying for the nursing program at Miami dade submit their experience they have had so far and also submit any questions they might have. I'm currently applying for the accelerated option but would like to hear what others are doing in the part time and generic option. A little about me is that I have a BSN in health science (2014) and have taken all the prerequisites with the exception of A&P 2 (which I am retaking in summer b June 22).

Right now my biggest concern is the hesi a2 exam we have to take and making sure i ace it because my science gpa is not so hot right now. I have read prior posts and it seems like A&P is the most challenging section. Has anyone taken it as yet? Your advice would be greatly appreciated. Also I'm worried that after they evaluate my degree they might not take my science subjects and make me re do them ? ? . Has any one's transcript been evaluated yet?

Hey guys .. For those of you that took your pre requisites from another institution do you know if you have to take the chem 1033. I took mine at USF , chem 1045 and 1046 and it seems as if they want me to re do it at Miami dade. Is there way to get an exemption

I know that for AP courses, if it's been over 10 years then MDC require you to retake it. I'm not sure if the same applies at MDC. The course ID is CHM1033, so if you took it at USF then I'm sure it could've been transferred over...? Just make sure that you have the Lab to go with it.

Hi. Got rejected for fall 2015. I have a combined gpa of 3.62. But I think there's a better chance in spring, there's always less applicants in spring and it'll be the entrance exam score and science gpa, which in my case it's my forte. What study guides did you guys purchase?

Hi yes I did! I think im going to just take it and see how I do and then retake

Hello, I will be taking the HESI Tomorrow, i am nervous, good night.

Hey did you do well? Any advice? I am taking mines next week, I am really nervous

Well, I am not the most brilliant guy, and my English is very, very poor. I got 72 in English part, 80 chemistry, 80 a&p, 78 biology, and 90 math.

For me was something new, 4 hours, you can take the subjects in any order, you can go to the restroom, between subjects. The application has a calculator, its located under the timer. I recommend you to use it for all the exercise.

The sections?

Math so simple, addition, subtraction, multiplication, so simple, some ratios and some percents. The Elseiver book is very close to the problems.

Some conversions from g to kg, gallons to quarter, cup to ml.

A&P some questions are easy but others go in detail, study all the tissues their functions an characteristics, the cavities of the body, the muscles two questions one of the tight, and other of the back.

Also the cells, and organelles its functions. About the nervous system.

I am trying to remember, so many question left me in blank lol

Biology, some materials related to plants, cellular division etc, about cells, about cellular reproduction, phases.

About lipids, carbohydrates, proteins, enzymes hormones, make sure you know what are they, some functions of the body systems, digestive, urinary, chemistry concentration of substance, calculate, hmm, oxidation number of k mg cl.

What is mass, nucleus composed by protons electrons, etc

Bonding, covalent, ionic, hydrogen, property of acids, hydrogen donor or acceptors, if acidic or alkaline or neutral

I noticed that some question even are not covered by the book, but I have not time yet to goe over the book again and think about the text, I am planing to take it again at August 17 or 18. I can tell you that my grade was low, I saw a guy with almost everything above 90, They print you a report that has a graph bar, and I saw all his bar above the 90, so maybe i do not studied enough. or I just use the hesi book.

hey guys hows it going. i wanna apply for the spring 2016 but the deadline is september . Im only missing that intro to healthcare course and unfortunately I wont be able to get that course before september since they offer that on august. my overall gpa is 3.62 and my science gpa is 3.76. Now about the hesi, do you guys recommend me to buy the hesi a2 book they require is it helpful? or not?

Yea I purchased it and so far I really like it. It's simple and a lot of the other students who have taken the exam swear by it.

I would recommend it and it's not that expensive, you can also try your public library.

I just got accepted!!!

Is my first time here....I just want to know what is a good HESI score in order to be accepted into the nursing program

I read that for the Hesi entrance there is a pop up calculator. I wonder if they let you use if for the Math portion at all time. I just started to study for the Hesi and I don't want to struggle doing of the math by hand since there is a LOT of info for the science section. Please I would like to know if anyone has done the Hesi Exam already. Mine is on 8/27. I'm applying second time. I will never give up. Also taking classes for fall, almost finishing my AA in pre nursing.
