Have you ever denied employment to someone who had a positive urine screen for Xanax and Adderall and had a legal prescription?

Are you relating something that happened to you?

No, something I anticipate happening to me

That's typically the domain of HR, not the direct hiring manager.

If you have a prescription for medication I don't see an issue as long as you disclose it. They may require that you are able to perform your work duties without taking the medication while you are at work. I do agree with the above poster...check with HR.

Should I call

HR beforehand drug test? Anonymously? Or tell my name?

Sorry ok so skiddish. I feel guilty I need meds. I wish I was just normal. I feel like they are meds that if someone worked hard enough they could get off of.

They won't deny employment if you're actually prescribed those meds. If you test positive then you will probably get a phone call asking you to provide proof of prescription, or they will ask for your pharmacy and call them to verify

Most pre-employment drug screens require you to fill out paper work that includes listing all prescribed medications, dose, and frequency. So, if you pop-positive, it will make sense. Proof of Rx will likely be required as well. However, as the other posters noted, be sure to talk to HR. I do not think you need to be anonymous... prescription medications are not usually a problem unless they hinder your ability to perform safely on the job.

As a Pediatric RN I cringed when I saw this. You are NORMAL!!!! You shouldn't feel guilty for needing medications! We always tell our autistic patients you are just you and there is nothing wrong with you. Sorry off topic...its the peds nurse in me haha
