Hi, I was wondering if anyone has applied to the MGHIHP new accelerated BSN program? If so, what do you think your chances are of being accepted?

I'll give you my schedule this semester. Mind, the schedule for the first month is different and crazier because they front load each semester. Here is where i'm at now.

Every other monday I have lab 9-1. Tuesday I have my community health clinical from 9-3ish (varies) Wednesday I have my med-surg clinical from 6:15 ish to 3. Thursday we have class 9-12. We have class one friday a month and 2 saturdays a month. This schedule may not sound so bad, but an important point to consider is the mon-wens-thurs schedule, is all for one class, you have three classes that are mainly online except for the once a month meetings. Tuesday's clinical is also for one of the online classes. So, while there appears to be ample free time, there is plenty of work that needs to be done for all the on-line classes. Some people have clinical on monday and lab on wens. it all depends. There are also review sessions that are scheduled on various thurs/fri/sat for test prep.

Let me know if there are any more questions! Happy to answer :)

Thanks!!

How feel about the online classes?

Are you able to work in this program?

Do you think with your schedule you can have enough time to work about 12 to 16 hours a week if you wanted to?

You will not be able to work during this program.

It is very intense and you have to keep up with work ontime. They have deadlines for online assigments and quite often you run into situation that you have 3 assigments and one exam in the same week.

Be prepared. I will suggest to learn medical terminology and brush up on your anatomy, physiology and psycology.

The amount of material is the same as in 4 year program , just the speed is different. You have to be quick learner and learn on your own.

My next question is...

How do you guys do it? How do you go to all your classes, complete your online course of the day, and study and complete all hw assignments and projects, while continuing on with your daily life and waking up early in the morning to do it again?

Just looking for personal tips/experiences on how you organize your time.

Organization is huge, but I assure you it can be done!

Also, some people do work in the program. When it comes to working, I would say the key is to have a job that is VERY flexible, because as the other poster mentioned, one week you might be too busy to work, and then have some time the next. During the summer semester there was more time available, and I would say quite a few people worked. This semester things are much busier, but again people have real lives and bills to pay, so yes some people manage to work. I work about 8 hours a week babysitting, which is just fine for me! And as I mentioned before about the schedule, once you're through the first month of frontloading, the schedule is not that bad. You will certainly be very busy with any free time you have, but it is there. Some people have families in the program, and I dont know how they do it, but they do!!

Having family and be in this program is not an issue. The amount of material to learn and the time given for that it not enough. 14 months is Ok for school but hospitals look for real experience. Compare 6 months internship in 4 year college and 6 weeks internship in this program.

i know there is another thread regarding the 2010 class for mgh accelerated bsn, but has anyone else been accepted?

i am looking how much they suggest to take out for living expenses, it almost doubles the cost of attendance. is it better to just wait until we get back our financial packages? i don't really know what the next step is.

also i filed the 2008-2009 fasfa, do you think we will have to do the new one, i don't have my w-2 even back yet for this year.

I was also wondering if anyone has heard anything about how big of a class they are planning to have this year.

anyone know about the number of applicants waitlisted? chances of acceptance at this point? i assume many were waitlisted and i haven't heard anything from mgh.

@lucy121- what tag name can i search for that other thread? i can't find it..

@lulustudent21- i'm on the waitlist. are you waitlisted too? what makes you think many people are on it?? I'm not sure of any of MGH's numbers either =/

Hi oxojoyoxo2- Yes I am on the wait list, while I know that the deposits were due on the 25th for the accepted students- I don't know when they will be sending out notifications for the waitlisters... I heard they had triple the applicants this year.
