  1. Try to be resoursefull and talk to students from school you are applying. How the clinicals are and what the expectations. Any online courses and if you are expected to write a lot. Take Medical terminology and work as CNA. You will get a chance to see what nurses work is about.
  2. Nursing school is hard. I would say on the scale from 1 to 10, it is 10. When I was in nursing school, I thought I wish I can live by myself. Both roommate situations were bad: one person was didnot care and the other was too much. Give you girlfriend space and wait. One day things be back and as usual.
  3. LTCF is a good option for first job if you not confident with your skills.
  4. I didn't enjoy doing BSN online and found it challenging. You have to write a lot: postings/replies to other students, professor, assignments, papers and case studies. We had nursing fundamentals and med/surg courses in regular courses. It is not easy to combine on site courses with slim lab, two clinical days and online courses. I would say if you had clinicals days at the end of semester than other activities be OK. Check with your school and talk to current students to get tips how they do it.
  5. But you've went by the book and checked six "P"s. Ask the experience nurse to show how she does it. They might know all patient very well since it is Long term facility.
  6. Magnet hospitals have a requirement for new grad program-BSN. If you are new grad and they have other people for the same position, than BSN applicant is a preference.
  7. You have to complete prerequisites because that is fundamentals of your success in nursing program. A&P should be "A" , chemistry and statistics a must. I will say a good psychology course will help you a lot too. If English is not your major, take English composition and English literature course. You have to write a lot in nursing school otherwise you will end up missing time for studying nursing courses.
  8. Accelerated program is very intense. You have to know your strengths and witnesses. Nursing in college required a l good writing skills, in depth knowleadge of A&P, medical terminology, biology, psychology. Psychology majors are doing the best in nursing. Even so your school might not require, I will suggest to take psychology course. MGH is online learning school and not all courses are lectures. If you good in teaching yourself, than go. Online learning is ok for transition from AS nurse to BSN while you are working in nursing. Or you have to do reading ahead of the time and practice mutliple choice questions. Cost should not be your consideration. I personally think that 2nd degree two years programs are the best choice.
  9. Do CNA training and keep working per-diem if you can during the school.
  10. I would recommend couple things: If you are accepted, go to school and talk to current nursing students. You will know what to expect. Practice your test taking skills and be quick in writing papers. You can get textbook " Nursing fundamentals" and study guide, and study on your own. Learn medical terminology, CNA training and if you have time, work in the field.
  11. Dont go MGH IHP. i AM CRYING EVERY DAY NOW.
  12. Having family and be in this program is not an issue. The amount of material to learn and the time given for that it not enough. 14 months is Ok for school but hospitals look for real experience. Compare 6 months internship in 4 year college and 6 weeks internship in this program.
  13. You will not be able to work during this program. It is very intense and you have to keep up with work ontime. They have deadlines for online assigments and quite often you run into situation that you have 3 assigments and one exam in the same week. Be prepared. I will suggest to learn medical terminology and brush up on your anatomy, physiology and psycology. The amount of material is the same as in 4 year program , just the speed is different. You have to be quick learner and learn on your own.
  14. I will not recommend to be sick in nursing school. I have learned that they pay attention to your attendance and if something is with your grades, they count it against you. They are very concern about good relationshi with clinical sites. I might be missing something too.
  15. I am trying to decide if I want to go to this program. Last year they send financial award letters almost a month before the start day and I am wondering if they do the same this year. It takes time to be approved for the loans.
